A friend of mine had a Jeep Wrangler with ARB lockers up front. Neither of us know much about ARB's and less on trying to fix them.

What the shop told him was: they found a few bolts broken in the front differential. They said it was safe and OK to drive but he couldn't and shouldn't use his front locker anymore.

Gave him a repair estimate of about $1,000. What went wrong in there? Is it truly shot? Seems like a whole new ARB locker is around $800 or so and seemed like a lot to just fix it. :dunno:

I would ask the shop what's broken in there. Most shops around here are around $75 per hour in labor, so you might want to ask how many hours labor are in there too. Like you said though, you could probably just buy a new one for that price.

i would tear it apart your self and take it apart. thay are not that bad.

find the pdf file of parts on there site its on there. match up the broken parts and go from there.

but the major question i have is how old ? mabye still warrenty.

what did he do to break it ?

and watching there test video on youtube it would take a lot to blow one up if you ask me.

Depends on which bolts came loose and what they did, could have damaged more than the locker. Pretty tough to hurt an ARB though, I'd look for a second opinion or pull the cover and post a picture.

He's a good friend from church and we were talking afterwards. He is totally non-mechanical so he doesn't want to touch it. I think it would be a good idea to pull the cover off and see what's in there. Obviously, I'm getting pretty good at pulling diff covers off in the Junkyard on my 14 Bolt SF exploration project. Great idea, thanks!

Any special fluid for his ARB diff or would it be standard gear oil (80w-90)??

is this a true arb or rubicon factory lockers. thay are diffrent units.

but ya bull the cover and snap a few pics . your good at that. :haha: then post up here.

those jeep axles are easy to work on.

5 lug nuts per side.

2 caliper bolts.

pop off rotor

3 bolts 12 point socket for wheel bearing/hub unit and 1 big nut for axle shaft if you even wana pull it from the hub. might save time if your a good tech.

then pull shafts and then its just drop diff out.

Hey Jeff, I could look.at it ins few days, at least pull the cover and see what's up..just depends when he would.want to look.at it and what I have on the lift

Appreciate the offer Brad. I'll see if I can get with him in the next day or so and take a few pics (thanks Sweetk30! :thumb:). Pics make is so much easier to explain! We'll see what we find and then go from there.

Yes, I believe they are aftermarket ARB's and I think it's a mid 90's Jeep (solid leafs up front if I recall) and 33" tires. He does have a supercharger on it though. Kinda cool!

Thanks all.
