With Can-back Out Of Business And Specialty Top Closing Is There Anyone Left Who Makes A Soft Top For Our Rides????

I also am surprized at the hole in the aftermarket for this type of thing. everyone I talk to wants one. I have been corresponding with Can-Back and they said that they will be ready for delivery of tops in Jan. They said that I/ could get a discount for group orders of 5 or more. Are you interested?

You can get Bestop tiger tops for Blazers new on Ebay for around $500-600.
Just do a search for "Blazer Soft Top" You can get them even cheaper than thet too.
I was bidding on a new one on ebay last week that ended up selling for $380. + shipping. Keep checking They come up all the time.

What!STC going out of business? Is thiat the straight poop?If so does anyone know when?I'll have to get on the horn and order another top just so I'll have one ten years down the line when mine is worn out.I frigging love the one I have!

I just sent STC an e-mail to find out if they are going out of business, and if so, when. I think they are the only company that makes tops for my 74K5. I might have to get one sooner than I had planned.

I will call them on Friday morning and post the results on that afternoon. I'll find out about shipping and if they will send it to everyone seperately and how the money will be dealt with. It may be for an order of at least five and if one person has to pay them and then in turn get paid by the others it may be a real hassle ($6000 minus the discount). I'll let everyone know I've heard from at least four people including myself that they might be interested.

Holy crap! I need to a top for my project, which I wasn't planning on buying for another year because it won't be done until then.
So..I was just going to get one now.
and
I just called Special Top Co.
They said they aren't manufacturing anything at the moment, they are in the middle of trying to sell the business. They have a potential buyer, but the deal is still in the works, so nothing is in stone. He said I could order one, but he couldn't tell me when it would be produced because he has no material right now. He said it would probably best to wait a week or two to see what's happening. He said new owner(s) would, in all probability, be making the same tops. But obviously, nothing in concrete.
Fudge! I threw out my old Kayline snap top because it was rotting outside, along with half of the bows and whatnot. So I've got no pattern now either. Maybe if I could build a truck in less than 8 years I'd would've had something.

The vendor I was going to buy mine from didn't sound very enthusiastic about the new arrangement and that the chances of getting a STC top didn't look too great. I'm also going to check out the Bestop one but I'm not really sure about the quality.

tagged for outcome. I was hoping to wait a year or so to do this, hope my plans dont get pushed forward. oh well.

Yeah I just saw your post in the other thread there.
Does your vendor know the prospetive buyer?

I am interested in a Can-Back as well. I was hoping to wait until tax time but I may have to use my Christmas Bonus. Let me know what you find out.

Thanks
Tim

I don't know the vendor personally but I have talked to him on several occassions before and after the STC decline. The way he was talking was that he didn't feel really good about the prosepective buyer. I hate relaying the way that I feel someone else is feeling but He pretty much told me to not hold my breath. I will let you know.
