diy4x

4 inch rear shackle flip with stock 56's, 6 inch shackle and a zero rate = six inches

cost ya about 400 and time

WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!

www.diy4x.com - he will take the time and make sure you get what you want!

Make that X3, go with 52's or 56's up front to if you want flex, bout as good as it gets with leaves

I am very leary of everyone telling everyone to run 52's or 56's up front..It may not be the best choice for many and their uses..

Personally, my truck will be on the street enough where the manners of 56's up front is a concern.. Thus my choice for some EZ rides up front with upgraded upper hangars, shackles and greasable stuff.. 56's and a flip out back... I expect it to flex fairly well and have a quality, stable ride...

Yep I'm not going 52s up front because my front end dips enough without a swaybar and with 4in springs.

i just need to get these roughsprings off. the ride is so bad it actually hurts when i go over a little bump in the road. i was just looking for some new springs with a 6 or 8" lift and maybe some more inch's with a shackle flip and new hangers and stuff. i just want the rough ride gone without loosing my lift. and i need it to be streetable

Checkout a set of springs from BDS. If you do a search, you will see this a common question.

The longer springs are great for a trail rig, but if it's a daily driver (or you don't have the time/skill to do the longer spring conversion) I highly recommend the EZ rides from Tuff Country. I've got a 3 inch set and I LOVE the ride. Granted, a 6 inch arch is going to ride a bit harsher no matter what, but TC's got a really soft advertised spring rate. Other than going with a custom built spring (which is great, but $$$) it's one of the best options.

For the rear, as everyone else has said, shackle flip all the way!! Keep the springs as flat as you can for the best flex (and therefore the best ride)

i think i kno what im going with up front(6inch tc and zero rates all around) rear,i dont know if they are the stock springs or not but i m pretty sure it has lift blocks in the rear. can you do the shackle lift kit on the front also or just the rear.and a quick question, should i upgrade my axles first?there still 10bolt with 37" tires? if so how much can i get front and rear for

no you cant do a shackle flip in the front only the rear, you can get longer shackles which will give you about an inch or so though. As for the axle upgrades, 3/4 ton swap would be a good idea, depending on how hard you ride it might not be needed. You can usually find corporate 14 bolt full floating rear ends for around 100-200$, as for the front I am not sure on pricing for 8 lug dana 44's or the 10 bolts. A dana 60 for the front will probably run you 600 and way on up. An added bonus to the axle swap would be you can swap in axles with lower gears to help with those 37's, 3/4 tons commonly come in 4.10's and 4.56's. On the other hand you would have to find 8 lug wheels

Let me know what you decide to do for the front as far as springs. I've done the Shackle hanger and shackle kit from ORD, but the truck was originally a small block. I'm installing a big block and I'm not sure how it's going to sit. It's got 6" springs now but I may have to get a heavier set. If you find a good deal on springs, PM me.:D

is that the shackle on the front? and about the axles. i dont plan on going bigger on tires i actually plan on getting 35's after these run out of trad. would i be ok to just get a 14 bolt for the rear and leave the front alone? i dont plan on doing rock crawling just some muddin'

It's the aft side of the front springs the original hanger was rivited to the frame. On most trucks, I guess this wears out bad, unless someone replaces the upper bushings with some regularity. Mine were metal on metal(upper bolt to hanger) and ended up egg shaped. This setup is alot nicer.

As far as the axles, Nor Cal Kid is right, 14BFF is probably the best choice. All around these are good axles. What axle is in the front now?

whatever it came with stock? and i beleive the rear springs are stock with a 6" lift block

The problem with doing this is the 14FF is an 8 lug axle, so you would have to run 2 sets of wheels if you left the front alone. So if you want all 8 lug you have to swap in 3/4 ton outers on to your axle or juts swap in a complete 3/4 ton 44 or 10 bolt. If you dont want to deal with messing around in the front you could try to find a 6 lug 14 bolt semi floater, not quite as strong as a FF but plenty strong for 35's. If I were you I would swap in all 3/4 ton stuff, you will get some lower gears, probably 4.10's, which will help out with those 35's. Another benifit of the 14FF is the cheep locker options, you can weld the spiders up to get a "spool" which can be taken out if you decide to go to a detroit which is only about 300$. On the down side you would have to find 8 lug wheels
