ATF in Transfer Case

Great thread!

I did a lot of reading about this. I pulled a 71 k5 NP205 from a TH350. It had ATF fluid in it. Don't know how long it ran with it in. I installed it behind a TH350 in a 78. I wondered about the gear fluid getting into the tranny. I looked around at the specs for the np205 and no where did i find it called for the use of ATF fluid for the NP205. So i used gear oil.

Could some one show proof that the NP205 calls for ATF. I'm not convinced. Is called out by OEM?

My 88 V30 called for it(ATF) in the owners manual. It didn't state any other fluid for the auto or manual tranny either.

Yep it also in the haynes book, which I don't put a lot of faith in, but found it after someone posted it was in the manual. After posting this I was thinking back and I also had a jeep truck (J20) that had atf in the transfer case. Makes it much easier not to be worry about cross contamination.
