was wondering if one is better then another. banks kits are seem to be more expensive. i have no experience with a ats kit. 6.5 kits seem to be around and cheaper. thanks

The performance is prolly roughly the same whichever way you end up.

The Banks kits are pricey, but they have absolutely every little piece you need and very good support and instructions. The also sell individual replacement parts should anything break or go missing.

With a 6.5 kit you're going to end up scrounging for detail parts at some point.

Don't know much about the ATS setup.

I have an ATS set-up...but need the get the turbo rebuilt before I can install it. It has a pretty interesting intake set-up.

The nice thing about the ATS and Banks kits is that they were designed to fit that generation of truck. Using a 6.5 factory setup will have interference issues if you are running A/C. Plus the only factory GM turbo worth a damn IMHO is the GM-8 found on the later 6.5TD trucks, which makes them a little harder to find.

any pics of the ats? very few trucks i have. have a/c. so i never thought of that. the turbo i have now is from a 93 6.5. gm-8 a bigger turbo?

ATS is the rarest of the 3.

Banks doesn't use a wastegate which can limit you if you want to mod it for a performance increase.

The GM-8 is the last in the series and has all of the design mods for performance increase. It's not larger it just performs best. Avoid the GM-6 as it was designed to go on a van and you'll have firewall problems installing it on a truck or Blazer.

Bigger, no. Better in almost every way, yes. It is more efficient, a bit stronger, will spool easier than a GM-5, and IIRC had an improved wastegate that didnt flutter as much when you removed the vacuum actuator.
