I have a column shift for a th350, can I make it work on a 700r4? Or will I have to get another column shift?

t should bolt right up. I put a 700r4 in my 71 c20 that had a th350 with little effort but it was a long time ago

You might have to get a new column detent? plate. On the inside of the column is a plate with the shift pattern for your trans. The 700 will require one with another notch.

You might be able to use the 350 plate and play with adjustment, not sure, but to do it correctly you need the plate.

Where is that plate located? How do I get to it? Is it easy to change?

It is down below the tilt housing. The 4 torqs screws that everyone tightens to fix the tilt, you will need to remove IIRC. Hmmm I wonder if I have an extra plate.

The column AND the lever which the linkage attaches to at the transmission are made to work together. There are slight differences in ratio to get it right.
Unfortunately, I don't know how they compare exactly, to get the extra position in.
You need a faster throw to get all of the positions.

Thank you, I'm gonna work on it this weekend. Been trying to find the detent.

Mine won’t shift into 1st gear either, only about half way when it stops and I can’t pull down any more. How do you fix it?

This is why I said earlier that the lever is different where the linkage rod attaches.

Yeah, I've never messed with different shift throws, I've always had a 700 and 4 speed auto column. I just know the plates change with the trans. The lever sounds like it needs to be shorter.
