I have a 86k5 that has the original auto locking hubs. I would like to get rid of them and get into some manual locking hubs. What are the recomendations.......

thanks

Warn all the way, your spindle and hub are identical to a truck with manual hubs. Should be able to buy a warn hub kit and install.

They can be swapped in an hour or so. You will want to grease your wheel bearings, and replace the wheel seal while doing it.

The price varies, but the last time I looked they were around $150 for the Warn Premium hubs.

Or spend less than 1/2 that here:

Mile Marker all stainless, with brass center cap. I have these and have never failed me.

Should be able to get warn premium's for less than $100, or regular warn's for even cheaper.

i went to the local 4 wheel shop and got the warn standard hubs for 80 bucks.not too bad.you should be able to find em for about that price pretty easy.they are really easy to swap out.i heard milemarker weren't as good as warns, but have never used them myself.

Just one of the things that makes us brothers/sisters! :D

So what are the disadvantages of the auto hubs vs the warn manual hubs?? My 86 has the auto hubs also..

The auto's work fine, on teh street, as long as oyu aren't stuck.

They don't engage unless they are rolling forward. So most people wait til they are stuck, pop it in 4wd, and step on the gas. If/When the auto's engage, there is normally too much torque being sent to them, and they explode.

With manuals, you lock them before you might need 4wd, but leave the xfer case in 2wd, then stop and shift into 4wd when needed. They are locked in for sure, and don't blow up when you need them most.

dhcomp that is about the best I have seen it explained. :waytogo:

Never had auto hubs, but i remember so saying there might be trouble with the unlock function also.

I have a set of the auto hubs as well. If any one wants to trade for a used set of milemarkers, let me know.
