I had a turbo 400 with a shiftkit in it when I had 33's and 3.73's... was good.. goto a mudpit and FLOOR IT... well that was fun I guess... hill climbs were ok... until I ripped out a tranny fluid line....

so one less fluid to worry about....

then I went to a smc465 with 33's and 4.56's and WOW is all I could say...

yes you have to watch the tach.. I bounce 5k all day long and easliy too...

however those same hillclimbs that I had problems with.... right up now.... the power control is so nice..

in an auto you can do a stahl converter but it is nice to have the stick.. you get into something gooey... rev up and feather the clutch and when it catches HAMMER IT!!!!! :wink1:
 
I say manuel too even though I run an auto, my wife who drives my rig 50% of the time (at least when we are off road) likes the auto, so it stays. Most auto problems stem from not cooling the fluid enough but manuels are definately stronger an auto will leave you totally stranded, you can usually get a stick in at least one gear.
 
I run an auto......manuals and carbs are good for racing.......Autos and fuel injection are great for crawling and crawling is what I built it for.

Very true, but F.I. with a manaul tranny along with a butt-load of gear make for a strong crawler with many ratio options.:D I built mine to crawl as well.;)

Oh they are out there but definately not enough. You see more sticked K5s in the earlier years.



Allow me to reiterate how much I hate those slush box autos!

Remember the saying, "Stick it to the man!"
its not "auto it to the man!"

I'm running a Th350. I love it. soon to have a Np205 in the back of it. CAN'T WAIT

Probably because the stick shift crowd is more apt to voice opinions , scream and hollar and the hard-core auto crowd is tired of the debate . :D

The stick shift crew always falls back on durability factor and the auto crew has the old "it makes things so much easier" answer. All comes down to driving skill, style , and the always debateable personal opinion.....

I like my auto. Predictable on rocks, but If I had two rigs, my second would have a stick.

Same thing on the Vette boards. The stick guys say the auto vettes aren't real Vettes, the auto guys say that sticks don't work as well in traffic jams, then the stick guys say this, the auto guys say that, ad infinitum, ad nauseam. In any case, the respondents are a self-selecting sample, and we know how statistically bankrupt those are.
 
It was only a question . I have trucks with manuals too . I also drive a clutch all day long at work. Autos just work better off road for me.
 
no insults and fightin, yet. very good. often, people seem to take this subject too personally. auto for me. makes it easier to do important stuff, like mess with the stereo or eat a quesadilla. i think i'd go crazy in the dfw traffic, with a stick. so, i take care of my autos and they take care of me.
 
I think that too many cars are auto only. I think a stick in a Suburban wouldn't kill GM.

I was in dallas for 4 months back in 1997 and YEAH ID HAVE A AUTO IN THAT CRAP ANY DAY!!! DFW TRAFFIC SUCKS...

I used to drive to class.. did it 2 days in my 86 z-28 that I drove to tx in...
traffic sucked... then noticed on i35e the hov lane.. so my room mate and I started car-pooling... THAT ROCKED.. 70mph while the other 5 lanes were bumper to bumper for miles.....

and even funnier when people get busted for the blow up doll family to use the hov lane.... :haha:
 
i just swaped my auto to a manual (sm465) i like it but needs rebuilt gets stuck in 3rd sometime but other than that im glad i got rid of the auto.:D
