floor shifter like the old yota trucks have. Nothing sucks more than leaning forward to shift your column shifter out on the trail or trying to do any kind of high performance driving with a column shifter is the Ghey.

i don't know, I guess I'm an old hotrodder, i just can't imagine why anyone would prefer a column shifter... maybe the logistics of the vehicles use might dictate that... but performance-wise it's a no-brainer... kinda hard to be "exact" or "fast" rocking between reverse and drive with a column shifter... or banging thru the gears..

Somewhere in the cab.....

I am switching mine to a floor shifter right now. I had to pull the transmission to have it rebuilt and noticed that the shifter linkage has been binding and almost wore threw the rod that goes threw the holes on the bracket that bolts to the transmission. Glad I saw it before it broke. I have heard that the column shift linkage can bind up and not let you shift if you get into a flexed situation.

If switching to the floor is the preferred method, what type of shifter did you use? B&M, Lokar, Hurst?

For my truck I prefer the column, mainly cause I have 3 across seating.

And Ryoken, you need to try some demo derby driving. This experience will get you very good at going from R to D with a column shifter. :D

Im probably the only one, but I like my column shifter. One day I will fab a cable to the tranny from the bracket on the column for the shifter to 86 the linkage.

I definitely prefer the floor shifter. I went from 2nd to reverse on the freeway once with a column shift, I hit a big bump while shifting, now I just do floor shift.

Like this one? CLICKY

Ill swap to a floor shifter when I put in a SM465... I dont like the auto floor shifters in our trucks, I think the B&M truck shifter looks really cheesey with that base thats a foot tall, however the right lokar shifter might work really well. A friend has one in his buggy and loves it.

In trucks I like the column shifter so I can lean out the window if I need to and have it right there, also for plowing snow its nice to have it right there too.

stick shift hole in floor. then th400 for tranny. and lokar 23" 2 bend floor shifter in black that is full adjustable position now set for 4 speed hole. install 4 speed boot and looks like factory 4 speed and its auto. and good position for easy use.

That's the only auto floor shifter I've seen for these trucks that looks halfway decent. I still prefer column shift for autos though.

I think it would be cool to use a touchpad like new semi's and buses have for their trannys.

I like the column as well. I am not "perfomance" driving my Sub and the column keeps the shifter out of the way. When I am pulling in our out of a parking space, I can reach the shifter while turning the wheel with the same hand.
Or you can be like a ford and go with the big phalic console shifter smack dab in the middle of your center console... I'd rather have the storage space.
