Auxilary/Additional Heater in K5 Blazer???

My dads 72 came with one and it was mounted behind the drivers seat in front of the back seat. That sucker put out twice as much heat as the main front heater. It had its own seperate lines ran under yhe truck and hard lines through the body and up the frame to keep it from chafing up to the water pump. It had seperate lines off the engine so the hoses were seperate from each other. Pretty nice setup for Alaskan winters.

I put a heater from a full sized school bus (under the seat version) in the right rear corner of my 72 K5 I had years ago,I got it from a junkyard bus for 10 bucks, mounted in inside a milk crate......worked pisser!..it could be zero out and I'd have to take my coat off while driving...

I could melt a foot of snow off the roof in 10 minutes after the engine was warmed up,and it would roast you when used along with the stock heater up front, which didn't lack heat by itself either....my only issues with the rear one was the long hoses rubbed against the exhaust and frame and leaked twice, despite me being anal about tying them up and routing them away from them--dam zip ties came un-zipped!...used regular hose clamps after that to secure the hoses in place,no more troubles...

The stock heater should drive you out of the truck if all is correct with it--195 t-stat,not clogged up in the core, heater control doors working right.etc...

All of mine have had great heaters. Even the one that did not have AC, it kept me warm enough even when I broke the tailgate window.

Yeah, that pricing is crazy. I've got the same NOS heater kit, it comes with instructions for K5 too.

It does get in the way though for sure! Couldn't lay a 4x8 sheet down without hitting the rear heater.

...and that's why mine is still NOS. I always figured it would get in the way too much.

My heat sucks too and I agree with the blend door idea my tabs were broke on the vent def selector and I dont think I got it adjusted right. I put a 195 t-stat to make sure the motor was hot enough. But heat still sucks it doesnt even blow really hard?

Yeah, I'm just not seeing how a stock system working correctly wouldn't put out enough heat for Dallas. The rear heat is nice in a Suburban, but should only be needed in a K5 for really cold weather. A second heater might sound like an easy solution (i.e. avoid fixing the problems that are already there), but it might only add new problems (like leaks) and someday you might regret the reduced cargo space, holes in the floor, etc.

I would get the stock one blowing hot first, then see if more if needed.
