On my 97 k-2500 8600gvw axle seal is leaking on my front diff, pass side. It just started and now its really leaking a lot. Has anyone ever replaced these? If so how do you go about it? Should I get a service manual? Any help is appreciated, THanks!

pull the front diff out and stand it on end, IIRC, if you try to do it in the truck, there is a oil slinger, or something, that falls so you can't put the shaft back in.

Do I have to pull the shaft housing off since it unbolts? Also to pull the diff out, does it have about 4-6 bolts holding it in, then the cv shafts and the wires? It seemed pretty simple to pull out when I was looking at it.

1. Six bolts from cv inner to inner shaft.
2. Move cv out of the way should not need to be removed from hub.
3. Two bolts from inner housing to frame.
4. Unplug actuator.
5. Five more bolts at inner housing to diff housing.
6. Remove inner housing and put in vise. Axle flange down.

7. Tap axle flange with hammer. Pull seal and replace. Reassemble as shown use sealer between diff and inner axle housing.
