Anyone put a baby seat in the back seat of a blazer. How did you mount the shoulder belt? Extend the rollbar or cage for the right location? any pictures?

This wouldn't be for 4wheeling just for cruising around town.

I wheeled with some guys in Moab that had their kids in the back seat. I assume they had car seats too. Try asking in the 73+ forum. TDawg was one of them. They were confident enough drivers to know what they should and shouldn't be doing so if you're only on the street I'd have to guess there's a way to do it.

Oh ya been there done that.
My best advice is to use the floor in front of the rear seat.
I wheeled Pismo for years with my babys that way.
See I added two eye bolts to each side with the baby seat snug up against the rear seat/on the floor and with a ratchet strap to hold the seat in place, works great! And they are nice and low incase you need to test your cage out:eek1:

Why do you need a shoulder belt? Most BABY seats have the latch straps that tuck into the seat cussions and you could attach them to a homemade mount in the floor. Usually there is a top strap you throw over the top of the seat to anthother ground mount. Does that make sense?

I did the same as Burt, used the factory seat belt mounts but ran them under the seat to the baby chair.
It wedged right into the floor/seat and worked awesome.

Ours had the straps for the kid built into the chair so all I needed to do was strap through the chair itself.

Thanks all.

I have a few months, baby is due the end of July, just trying to convince the wife that it will be ok to cruise around with the kid in the blazer.

My daughter doesn't always like going in my truck, it is too loud, but, when she does go, I mount the car seat to eh middle of the reaer seat. The cage has been extended all the way back to cover her...click on teh link in my sig line and you can see the cage

Baby seats aren't a problem. It's when they get to needing Boosters that poses a problem. Law requires booster seats (which are designed to position the child properly for shoulder belts) but the seat manufactures say not to use them with lap only belts. Therefore, you either put your child in jeapordy by putting them in a booster with the lap-only belt or you go against the law and belt them directly to the seat. I've tried calling the "car seat safety commission" (or something like that) and "Buckle-up" to find a solution, but neither has returned my calls.

I have a 3 1/2 year old son who loves the blazer. He is mounted in the middle of the back seat. I'll post pics tomarrow to show the set up. However, I personally would not feel comfortable with a newborn in the backseat of the blazer because of the fact that they still need to face rearward in their seat, and the seat will typically fasten in differently than a forward facing one. I'll get pics tomarrow though.

Here are some pics as I said I would post of how my 3 year olds seat fits in the rear bench seat. If I really cinch it down it doesn't budge. When it is just the two of us he rides shotgun and I strap him in the same way but also use the adullt lap belt from the 5 point harness across him as well.

Thanks Burt. Ya, I've got pics of my seats and interior on my home computer and will post them on this thread tonight. they are from PRP (Performance Racing Products) out of Temecula, CA. (prpseats.com, I think.) Very helpful people. Aaron is the owner. I love the ones I got and there are tons of fabrics and seat styles to choose from. The rear is a custom length bench to match the front buckets. They source out their belts and put their name on them but they are the same as you would get from Crow or any others. I'll post up later and be a pic whore tonight. Thanks

Burt, here are the pics of the interior of my blazer. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Like I said above that I really like my seats. I got all the seats and some of the brackets for the fronts in custom sizes and fabrics for about $ 1200.00. It may sound a little steep but was still less that the same products from corbeau, mastercraft and the others. Hell, I wouldn't put a price on safety and comfort anyways. Def check out PRP seats. Here I am the big picture whore.:D

Nice rig!
Thanks for the photos!
I may copy you in the future! I like the high sides on the seats..keeps the side to side movement contained and the sholderbelts would be great for flying off dunes at Pismo :D
Have a GREAT weekend
