Back In the Saddle Again

FreeCAD is not easy to get used to. Lol. I often find myself going back to TinkerCAD online to make simple parts because it is SOOOO much easier for smashing basic shapes together. Damn I miss when I had a free Solidworks license.

Yeah, its not forgiving whatsoever. I had to remake this design about 100 times and its still doesnt have equally spaced holes haha

Finally getting this down. @Polymath I did try to use Tinkercad for this a moment ago but its not precise enough for me on this part. i am getting this to where the holes are as equally spaced as possible but it is a mountainous task. As you can see.

I am guessing freecad doesn't have a function to divide a line into equal length number of segments?

It does but you still have to define every constraint. I can not get the tool that is used to code it to work correctly so I am having to do it manually.

Yeah, tinkercad doesn't use constraints. It's a pain to line things up to a common zero much less get shapes to align at known distances apart. Solid was so nice for this. I had to watch several hours of youtube videos on FreeCad to get the hang of making a simple 2d-ish template like you've got there. To be fair, I also watched many hours of vids on how to get going with Solid, but even after using Solid for a while, Freecad still doesn't make sense to me.

I swear half the tools are broken and just dont work.

Will it let you use an equation for the dimension, and relate to another dimension? I used to do that a lot, say.... Dim1 = Dim3 , or Dim3 = Dim2/4, etc...

Freecad does have constraints that will allow you to use absolute dimensions for spacing. My problem is the program is not intuitive at all. It's like all the hotkeys and icons were thrown in a bag and randomized, then every function was just given a name at random. Like learning a whole new language while learning the software. I normally learn software very fast, but Freecad was so bad, that even after using SolidWorks for 20-30 hours on other projects, I found it barely functional and I hated it.

I have had it on my machine, freecad, for months and haven't gotten anywhere with it.

I have not been real happy with the timing on the truck with the built in tables the Daytona system offers. Just wasn't getting tight and right in certain places especially at start and idle.

Was messing with PC link today and got it nearly dialed in. It cranks, idles and runs so much smoother. But it gave me an idea.

I plugged all my engine spec info into Chat GPT and had it creat the most optimal timing table for it. Here is what it spit out. I am pretty dang close just by ear. Going to plug these parameters in tomorrow and see how it does.

Yes but its parametric interface is in python which I don’t know how to code yet. Its very clunky. Not user friendly at all but I am finally getting at least simple designs down. I am realy struggling with the seat brackets and how to lift an object into another plane. Theres tons of youtube video tuts on it but even so half the crap they do the navigation window they are using I cant find haha

Bumper to bumper wiring harness update:

You guys may know I purchased a wiring harness from Jabin Wood / Harnessworx off facebook. At the time of purchase (May 22nd) he said it would be about 6 weeks delivered. Its now September 7th and I still don’t have the harness. He has been so-so on staying in contact with me. I know hes a busy guy but I don't understand why he feels the need to lie about the progress on the harness. I asked him for an update a month ago and he said it would be shipping the following week. Which obviously wasn't true. Id rather him just say “man I havn’t finished/began it yet” etc., than to get my hopes up on it being ready. I know it will come eventually but man I hope i get it soon so I can begin the install right when the weather cools down. His harness is worth the wait I know that.IMG_5256.jpeg

the rear is easy 7 wires for lights and trailer, couple more for fuel pump and gauge. under hood is complicated for sure. Dash and IP would be rough as well, esp as interior gets all kinds of custom accessories

So his message basically says we are working on it but if these LS harness orders increase they will come before your harness. That's BS. Do the work in order of when the orders come in.

Yeah, if I don't have shipping Info by October 1st Im calling the bank in attempt to get my money back.
