Mine has the 465 trans, and 3.73 gears. works fantastic with 33-35 inch tires. Have done both tire sizes, and was best with the warmed over engine that i built, and 35inch tires. I towed everything on my flat bed like that too. occasionally might use low gear in traffic or starting out on a hill...Would really like 3.73 so if I end up putting a 4 speed in it won’t be a dog
Had to drop a used stock tbi engine back in recently, and there is a LITTLE difference off the line, but is not a problem. entirely useable on the street. final gearing on this is similar to what the truck came with stock? -30 inch tires and 3.08 gears.
no plans to change anything anytime soon. might not be the best set up with an anemic engine, but i dont see any lack of power off the line from a stop. RPMs @ 70mph are reasonable. Changing to nv4500 with 4.10 or 4:56 might be fun, but makes no sense for me for fuel economy, or for the end result/usability. would be nice to be able to shift a little more quickly, but im happy with what i got for now, and thats part of the reason my build thread says something about "the compromise"
-i should add that the low range gearing in the NP241, and having the manual trans helps make this tire/gear combo work. stock gearing in the 205 is only about 2:1?? even with the granny gear in the 465, that might leave something to be desired with a 2:1 transfer case. And torque converters on the autos rob horse power at all time they aren't locked, correct?
