Back In the Saddle Again

Gears could be 3.08 just saying that's not a 10b gov bomb carrier.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if that is not the original rear axle. Ole Capt PO, probably dunked the axle every time he launch the pontoon. Sucking nice cool water past the axle seals every time, and never service.
Screaming “booty patrol” the whole time too

Resist the urge to make wholesale changes. Stuff the 14b in.

Depending on where the 14b came from you may have to move the spring perches anyway.

I want to do away with the block lift though while I have this rear out and put my shackle flip in.

If your after budget ride help, I swapped in 92-96 2wd f150 springs, they are 57" long and are soft, it made my blazer ride really well.

II went 56" c30 springs lowest rating. But in k20 burb.

57" furd might ok in k5. What is the front spring eye to center bolt measurement?

The shackle flip doesn't require a spring change. Chitcan the blocks when you pull the 10 bolt out and put the flip brackets in. You can leave the front spring eye bolt alone and drop the rear of the spring down when you go to put the flip brackets on.

If you do go to a 56" or 57" spring, remember to swap the flip brackets side to side.

What shackle do I need for the rear of the springs when I flip. Do I still use the stock one? Or should I get some others?

You can use the stock one, with 52" springs. If you decide to go 56"
or 57" you should get a 6" shackle. I tried the 4" with 56" and the angle was wrong. The shackle was to flat and hit on the spring, changing to 6" shackle solved that.

The after market shackle are beefier than stock. so there is that.

I thought it was as the build sheet says this has 3.08 G80 axles but maybe this one was swapped out then?
my 1988 k5 came factory with 3.08 gears and a 465 trans -got along just fine on 31 inch tires, but man that was some tallllll gearing. Was like being in 1/2 overdrive all the time. cruised great at 55-65mph -almost like that's what the speed limit was and that's what the truck was designed to do??? even with the manual trans, the 3.08 was noticeably tall. I'm pretty sure that if I had kept those gears with the 33 inch tires, it would have felt like something was WRONG all the time. that could be worse with an auto?

If your truck has a code for the 3.08 gears, it probably came with a non overdrive transmission? i kinda scanned some pages here, but got confuse along the way - you have a th350? or have swapped for a 700r4??

fyi- im now running factory 3:73 gears between 35 inch rubbers. Given the 465 trans, I think its the best of both on/off-road I'm going to get (although I'm running a 241 transfer case for a little deeper low range gearing now). if your truck's previous owner did what I did? when a good ten bolt front is $FREE, and a rear end can be had almost free? its easier to go shopping for a set of axles with a higher gear from the factory, and roll the whole enchilada under there, than it is to buy parts and re-gear what you already have.

If i were running a trans with overdrive, I would want lower gears with the 35 inch tires on there now.

Th350 in this truck. The 14bff going in has 4.10. running 35s
Will work, esp for around here road trips might be different.

Yeah, this was originally a 305/700r4 truck with 3.08 gears.

Well dropped the drive shaft and pulled the shocks off tonight. Bought my wheels just 8 lug d window steelies like off my last truck should be here next week. Will get that rear end out and drop the tank for the shackle flip this weekend. Once I get the axle out I can measure for my new bushings. Thinking I’ll go 6” shackle just in case I want to go longer later. Going to bolt in my home brew shock mounts as well. Got my DIY4x u bolts and spring plates.

Not sure if I have all the brake lines to make the rear work. Can’t remember if I got them or not. Will need a prop valve, any you guys recommend one? I’ll probably get the ORD rear brake line coming too.

Take a look and see if you take rear number off if can reach the shackle rivet holes, with the tank in place.
Unless you have tank maintenance stuff you want do.
It is not a horrible job. I have had mine out 2x since 2019.
