Back In the Saddle Again

Been fighting this carb issue for a while. And my buddy just purchased an AVS2 and decided he didn’t want to run it.

So I went to his place so I could swap it on see if the carb was the big issue with this intermittent miss and weird running.

This is what I found.

I thought I had eradicated nearly all from the PO but it just keeps getting better. Lol

I remember when @Wes Harden was over we had my valve cover off and I found a chunk of RTV in the valve train. I thought it was off the valve covers lol

Is the squeeze out to spec?

Wes Brings up a good point. If the carb and valve covers were this covered in dope it’s possible he put too much on the intake as well and really made a mess of things.

Just when I thought I'd seen everything...man I would made a gasket out of a cereal box or something if I couldn't find the proper $2 one...:D

What’s incredible to me is how long I have been running it and I took it on a couple 100+ mile journeys like this and it didn’t miss a beat lol

I’m thinking this intake is leaning out the fuel too new carb I have as fat as possible with stock jets and it’s still way too lean. It’s a single plane gen 1 edelbrock torker. Better than the gen 2 torker for street but still not the ideal intake and only god knows if the ports are blocked with RTV.

Take the Torker off and hang it on the wall.

Totally. A basic Edelbrock performer would be way better on the low end and mid range. Had one on the 350 in my ‘75 and have one on my 350 in my Nova. Great unit.

A RPM version would be better, but if the cam is stock or mild replacement you probably won’t make use of the extra airflow.

I run the performer EPS on my 350. Supposed to give you a couple extra ponies but I'm not sure.

I’m not seeing what you guys are talking about with the extra RTV, what I am seeing is a freaking something driven through the base plate of the carb. I’ve looked back a few pages of the thread and I’m just not seeing the RTV issue but somehow no mention of a destroyed baseplate?

help me out…
