So i wont be able to use my innards with the later model cover?
Reason being is there is a hole in the top cover from what looks like a reciprocating saw. I dont have a tig to weld this up. Probably would cost the same to just replace the cover.
Innards don't change, it's the cover that holds the forks. See the post from fastereddie
It doesn't tell me if I need rails or forks or an entire assembly to swap over. If i have to get an entire assembly I will just get the early cover and put my parts in it. IF I am able to swap my innards to the new cover I will get the new style since this cover is needing a lot of work. However, from the link its pretty ambiguous on what exactly needs done. I have the rebuild manual from Torque King somewhere haha
I guess I am not sure if you can reuse the forks on the newer cover but I always got used covers complete with the forks.
Im thinking I can just swap a new cover along with my early parts. The early parts are listed as 91-on. This makes me think I can just get the top and be good.

Seen this video however its for a Dodge NV4500
Just got off the phone with Torque King. All early GM parts will swap into the later style cover without issue and without any other parts necessary besides the square shifter assembly.

Just a couple small spots edges edges etc and it’s ready to prime.

Im not going for show truck. Just something a little more decent than rattle can. My frustration with the paint on the roof is that it’s so baked that is just chips away and won’t feather off.
Yeah, that sucks, definitely. Makes you want to go for 80 grit or worse, but that makes more work to get rid of the damage.
The roof panels on these seems so flexible, that it doesn't allow for good progress..
This whole thing is hit with 80 grit right now. No problem with the primer we use at work. Limco 800k really nice high build. I hit the roof with 60. The limco will still cover it no problem and it’ll bite in good.
My mistake, the whole truck is 80 except where the bondo work is. That is 180.
That makes my hands hurt just thinking about it.
