Baja 1000 Pictures

How to find the photos

Additionally, you will input trucks, then my last name. Raffo

Man that looks like a blast! What got you into desert racing? Is this your first run in the Baja?

When I was a kid my Step Dad was a HAM radio operator and we would work the checkpoints in the Baja 500. I don't know what the diff is between the 500 and 1000 though. I remember a place called Mikes Sky Ranch. We would camp right next to a little river or creek just accross from it.

That pic of you jumping looks awesome! I wonder how many people get ran over when a bad landing occurs since they are standing so close to the road?

Your K5 looks tough man, as stated above what are the spec's? I am assuming it is a 2WD K5?

Yeah, we were drinking coffee. And damn happy we were at a campfire. It got down in the low 40's that night, and with nothing but a driversuit and a windbreaker, it was cold. Really cold. I had rolled my powersteering belt over earlier and had lost the alt. belt. It ended up that we lost the alternator, had a good spare, but no more belts. I drove up the wash with no belts left. No powersteering. Drove until we got to the campfire, where it overheated and had no juice left. Couldn't get spare belts until the morning. The crew waited until the part stores in San Felipe opened up. We put belts on the race truck and drove back to Ensenada without a problem. We were leading the race when we went out.

They not allow serpentine belt setups or at least multiple-ribbed belts on the vehicles? I would have thrown a cursing fit at losing the lead like that because of a bunch of cheap V-belts being thrown.

Awesome pics BTW! That looks like it would have been just as fun as riding at Tellico with dontoe was, if not more fun.
