Ball Joints

I went with Spicer's a few years back. One of them had a chip from machining in it. Did not instill confidence in the brand.

That said, they've held up since 2009. Not that they have seen a ton of mileage.

I was really impressed with the Mevotech TTX balljoints I just installed in a D44 for my K5 build. The construction of them looked top shelf. Even the packaging was well thought out. I also like the fact the upper balljoint is actually greasable

For a late later 70’s D44 the part numbers are:
TXK8195T – Lower
TXMS50569 – Upper

notice them mevotech units look like a moog but green boot . . . heard the guys behind these are ex-moog guys and there making the real good stuff that us gear heads like to buy .

I fixed my junk today. My problem wasn’t so much the ball joint more like the bore was wallered out of round.

So I replaced my knuckle and put new Ball joints on them.

I used the Moogs again I wanted to try the green ones but I already had these.

The lower ball joint gave me trouble with the licking nut that it came with.
I tightened it down but it seized up before it was all the way right. It would spin the joint around so I had a hell of a time getting the bit back off.
I had to use the one from the other side to fix this side & I’ll return this one as a “factory defect”.

If the lower ball joint spins on you then put a jack under it to apply pressure on it, then tighten/loosen it.

i did that. It was ridiculous. I had a jack under it and I had to tighten the crap out of the upper the nut to pull it up more. It would spin a little and stop when I got it off it took the threads with it.

Hey All,

Replaced my ball joints with Moog ball joints about 8,000 miles ago. Took the Jimmy in for an alignment today, found out that the lowers are bad on both sides, the passenger side is downright frightening(I saw it first hand, not tire shop BS)...

So, best ball joints for a GM 10 Bolt with 33's soon to be 35's? I've seen Spicer, Moog, and Mevotech all mentioned here, but no clear cut winner on who is the best.

Anyone make upgraded ball joints for the 10 Bolt?

Brand names mean squat today when it comes to getting "quality" parts..Dana / Spicer,TRW,Moog,McQuay-Norris used to be revered as "the best",but lately its a crap shoot..

Moog has been getting a lot of complaints for early failures ,many shops I know no longer are willing to pay more to get them ,when the parts don't hold up long, some claim the cheap ones in unmarked boxes outlive them and probably came from the same factory in China..no better (maybe worse) than house brands like Duralast or NAPA/Balkamp or the dozen or more "no name"ones or brands you never heard of..

Dodge Durango's and later model GM pickups eat ball joints rapidly,my friend replaces a few sets a month on those vehicles, the shop up the road from him does auto inspections and has outrageous labor charges, they find a loose tie rod end or ball joint they want $200 to replace them, and their mechanics are not too swift,so the manager sends the customer to my friend,he does the repair, for about half the cost ,the shop that does inspections in return gets customers sent to them when my friend has one that needs a inspection sticker..

I’ve been searching forums for awhile and current consensus is that these are the best.

Lower: ac delco 45D2156
Upper: ac delco. 45D0070

They are not USA or Canada made, from they own site, they will not say where there are manufactured.
