Banks turbo sidewinder kit worth?

Yup...CR x atmospheric pressure (roughly 14.7 psi) should get you theoretical cylinder pressure.

100% healthy 6.2 should be around 318.99 psi...minus losses through rings etc or through altitude.

Add 10 lbs of boost and you should have 536 psi. :eek1:

Yeah but stock 6.2 Compression is around 300 psi. if i'm not mistaken and they run all day long too. Had an 84 with 255,000 miles before the starting fluid did it in. Must be better than a SCUMMINS.

the 21:1 static CR of the 6.2 is because it was designed as a NA engine. all modern day 4 stroke turbodiesels are in about 16-19:1 static CR now. all that need to be acheived is cylinder temps over the auto ignition temp of diesel fuel. Autoignition temp of #2 diesel is between 250-290F. for every 1psi of air compression in the cylinder temp rises aprox ~3 degrees. this is cold cranking scenario.

my "scummins'" are 18:1 and you can put in 40psi of boost all day long on a stock top and bottom end.......and has never once needed ether to start even at -40c. you tell me whats better.

Don't turn this into a 6.2 vs B cummins pissing match :angry1: because the 6.2 or 6.5 will never win that fight.

Easy fella's...no need to get all bent out of shape in here. A) it's just the interweb, and B) the comparison between the B series and the GM 6.2 is ridiculous at best. They were desinged for two entirely different purposes. Might as well compare a blown big block to a Jeep 258.

Have a beer...

I'm A CAT man myself. Nothing hold a candle to a well built 3306 or C7. just got to give some guff over the cummins. Most diesels today are well built engines.

3306.......sure if your driving a scraper or D5 crawler.

I worked for the Cat dealer in the truckshop for a spell. Now I work at the Detroit dealer truckshop. I know all about diesel engines.

BTW if Cat on highway engines are the cats as.......ask them how the EPA10 reg engines are coming along :surepal:

Now not to put fuel to the fire, each engine has it's pros and cons, I have a CAT and can say it's got the power, can't get MPG that the detroit and the cummins get but spend most of it's time on the road instead of the shop.
Now the reason CAT is dropping out of the OTR truck market is that they have enough business with the off road crowd that they don't have to mess with the new ridiculous EPA standards, cummins and detroit have to stick it thru because it's most of their business.
So don't get too carried away.
As Rene said, this is not a pissing match here, just relax and enjoy that new 6.2 you got it was a gift that everyone here would love to get.
:p:

Work for a cat dealer in colorado. Just on the earth moving side. Some engine work mostly powertrain. Worked in the truck shop a while. Just enough to hate working on E models and shin busting bumpers. Don't get me wrong i'd be the first to stick in a 5.9 if i had one laying around. A Cat would be my first choice but hell wish in one had and Sh!t in the other.

If you need a banks truck to look at while installing your banks, let me know. I can park my blazer by yours and maybe even help now and then.:D

Oh I get revved up pretty easy now a days it seems. but its all good.

Now Caterpillar cannot meet the EPA10 in OTr engines and I know its just a drop in the bucket for them compared to the dirt shop. but rest assured EPA will get to the dirt rigs as well. they're just a bunch of years behind OTR.

acert was a giant fail for cat.
