Bash 09 question

Who's going and what's your age? Am I the only old guy that will showup? I'm 61 and just got off the phone and informing the conmpany I'm retiring on April 1. And that's no April Fool's joke!

Oh yeah, the wife wants to see someone run Lions Back.
Lions back is closed forever.

There is usually between 40-60 rigs that show up. I will be there like always.:D

You are pretty old though......:haha: J/k

My dad has gone the last couple of years and he's 61 this year. Don't know for sure if he will be this year, he traded in his K5 for a Jeep. :doah:

Only in years, not heart.

Didn't know that about Lions Back. Thanks

There's plenty of other places where it's pretty far down if you mess up ;).

Moab is worthwhile to see at any age.

Here's a little story for you - from Blazer Bash '04.

We're running CliffHanger. The entry is this always a little tricky set of stair steps down, and then around to cross Kane Creek, and then there's the first set of ledges as the trail works its way out of the creek bed, and up the side of the mountain. I'm tailgunning, waiting for my turn at the ledge, when these two CJ5s roll up behind us. Nice trucks, a little chrome but not über-bling, and well-equipped otherwise, on 35s. Each truck is occupied by an elderly couple - by my wife's estimates - in their late 60s or early 70s. :D The first guy sez to my wife in a concerned voice "...do you guys have lockers? You know you need lockers for this trail!"

We tell them that, yes, we have lockers, and right now this is a narrow spot on the trail, but they can sqeeze by my truck, and I'll call ahead to let the other guys know to pull over. The answer was no thank you, no problem, we'll watch a little bit, we're not in a hurry...". Once we were up, they followed, and drove the ledge without tire spin or drama otherwise. They tailed us a bit, and then pulled forward where the trail was a little wider to let them by. During that time, it became clear that both guys had excellent driving skills :waytogo:, and the ladies calmly sat in their passenger seats, enjoying a nice Saturday out in the fabulous landscape around Moab. About the only thing that was missing was sun umbrella . They also mentioned to Claudia that "...oh yeah, we've been doing this for the last 30 or so years..." :D

My wife and I just smiled at each other at some point, hoping that we would be able to go wheeling together when we hit that age...:D. I still smile when I think back to that day...

After what you did last year, methinks the Jeep will be suddenly unavailable come September :pimp:

Myself and the Jeep will be there! I no longer will drive the rock stomper trails but rather the scenic easier trails. So anyone interested in the easy stuff let me know. For now "L.R.R." is very stock and pretty much will remain that way. IMHO age shouldn't be a deterrent to attending Blazer Bash.

fred2mihi is my Dad I was speaking of earlier, BTW. :D

Yep age shouldn't hold you back, you just have more experience than most.

On Imogene pass I met a couple that were late 60's or more and had been wheeling since the mid 1960's. Guy was driving using the hand throttle that he installed on the standard shifter so he could be smoother than having his feet bounce on the gas pedal and wife was knitting while he drove!!!! Very cool couple!!

I am trying to get my father in law to go this year in his jeep, he is 75. He just put oversize tires on, wants 2 to 3 inch lift and a winch.

I'm bringing my Blazer and leaving the Jeep at home so I'll run the scenic stuff too.

Lions back was blah;)

The one I'm going to miss is gemeni bridges:(

hopefully my Donations to U4WDA are helping at least a little

Age is no big deal. My first year was 06. There was a gentleman there who had bought a military Blazer at auction, then drove it there from So. Ca. He blew a drive shaft. I helped take it out so he could get back to town. He got it fixed and drove it home. By the way, he was disable and on crutches. He said he had fun.

I was looking at my old videso the other day and I was wondering whatever happened to him. Too bad I can't remember his name. His K5 reminded me of mine when I first got it.

Worth flying from the otherside of the country?
Greg72 can answer that one best. He flew out a couple of years ago and rented a Jeep. Having been to Moab personally, I would recommend the trip to anyone at least once in their life. And what better time for CK5ers, than during Blazer Bash.

I'll be 20, by the time this years bash comes around, will I even be able to get a rental?

That would be the biggest pain to deal with, getting around while I'm out there
