Progress

Well I finally got a lot of thinkgs out of the way that frees me up to get back to the battery mount. I kept thinking that I need to take 4 battery boxes and mount them in one location. Kept driving me up the wall, until I decided to reverse the numbers, 1 mount for 4 batteries. Then bolt the mount to the frame thats in the spare tire well and then I can start to wire and then seal it up. I'll test fit it later tonight with the mock batteries then post those pics up too.

yup, from the hurrican madness right into winterizing and shrinking em all... i'm taking a break from my rig while i save up for a new DD.. but I'm starting/trying to get motivated on it....

oh, and when your all said and done, if you've got any gapping/slop around the bats, couple strips of sized lumber work very well for "padding" batteries out down at the bottom.. keeps everything snug in addition to a hold down...

much needed therapy

That's funny just thinking about how I was going to attach some wood to the stainless steel straps!

Here's what I got figured out from tonight.

Ya know its funny, a few years ago I always looked forward to this time of the year, the new trucks coming into the fleet, having to outfit them for each individual fire house. Well that was a few years ago, now I look a few weeks back wondering why I didn't plan my vacation from September to Febuary. I guess it's not that bad right now, only have 9 Bat Com trucks needing outfitting, but the bad news is a car carrier can show up any day and deliver more any day. Once a Chief can to my area and told me 'lets go for a ride' thinking that he wanted a private project done or something, nope, went to the dealership and told me what each vehicle needed. I was so pissed, I asked him why didn't he wait until the trucks got to my shop. He told me that the next Monday he would be on vacation for the next month. Fot to love those sworn officers!!! lol

I like the fact your starting out with a tray...

I've found good rubber bedliner or conveyor belt to work well on the bottoms... it appears you agree...

Well since the weather broke, I have redone my hope schedule. I hope to have the new electrical supply in by the winter time, cause if it's not it won't be until the spring. Which isn't all that bad, but as soon as the mercury falls, I get busy at work and busy at the farm, and with how Murphy is toward me, I'm starting to just figure on next spring. But anyway I'm just going to keep moving forward slow but sure until I have another stoppage. I got the pieces modified for the dimensional wood to be added to them, made another few small brackets that will hold the center batteries without depending on the outer batteries to keep them in place. Didn't get any time to cut the spacers I need to attach to the frame and the tray to get the airflow right for the suction fans, hopefully I'll get that done tomorrow. After dinner I got to install my mock batteries again, then put the tray, loaded, into the truck. I am so glad I made those fake batteries, I can't imagine trying to move around the tray with four full size batteries on it. Once I got it into the truck I noticed some clearance issues with some of the bolts, but I'm going to hold off until I can get the spacers and figure how to reinforce the tray and mount the fans on the bottom of the frame. wasted wages - nobody sells a battery box that holds 4 batteries in the location I am placing mine, among other reasons. I think I listed a few of them earlier in the discussion. Edit - see post #22 among others!

good for a bat or 2, but not always the best utilization of space when using many, or odd sizing setups imo... doubt 4 individual boxes would fit there... other thing to keep in mind, it's much easier to do any paralleling, etc in a single unit...

i'd like to see this with a nice one piece cover in the end.. maybe something with quick access dzus fasteners... gotta give quick access tho.. bolts or screws would suck as one is shorted out in there under nuclear meltdown.. the ones i'm using on my interior kickpanel are ideal for that kinda stuff...

Hopefully if Murphy leaves me alone it will. I agree totally about the meltdown thing, can't rely on a remote disconnect, have to be able to flip the switch on the batteries at the terminals!!!
