Battery cable gauge

I'm pretty sure the issue is oils and stuff, I've seen ground cables dragged, run over, so hot you can't touch them without gloves and they do just fine. Most have 200-350 amps running through them 12-20 hours a day for months and months on end without any trouble other than the clamps wearing out.

Oil and stuff isn't something they're normally exposed to though. It seems automotive cables use more of a plastic/vinyl insulation, where the welding cables use rubber.
