Where are you guys putting your batteries? I bent the crap out of my fender having it mounted there. Also whats the best place for wire and what gauge wire did you use?

I had previously removed all the HVAC stuff so I moved mine to the firewall using an Artec box.

I could do that, but the cage is going to come through in that area. And I wonder how it will hold up in the whooops.

I had mine mounted in a ruffstuff box mounted inside a tool chest in the back of my k5. Not sure I’d do it again that way. Now I have my duals in the engine bay where god intended.

I am leaning that way, but I need a solid mount that wont rip out of the firewall. Going 50+ through 1- 2 foot whoops shakes crap big time.

I welded a few tabs onto some upright tubes of the cage behind the seats and mounted two aluminum battery boxes back to back.

ran 2/0 cable up to a junction post on the firewall and frame.

My batteries are right behind my front seats. Pushed as far outside as possible. Then I ran cable through the floor right there and inside that floorboard brace channel up to the engine compartment. so in between that body brace and the frame underneath the floorboards.

If you are going to the trouble of moving it, all the way back is going to be the best for weight distribution/handling. Summit has a decent relocation kit with a long 1 awg + wire and a short fat ground wire to hook to the frame.

If you’re putting in a cage the battery can pretty much go anywhere, so plan it out as best you can. I would install it/them if running duel in the most convenient location to access with Still plenty of safety protection around the batteries to be safe. Under the hood sucks if because of damage you Can’t open the hood and get to the battery. You want it accessible as always as possible.

I know you don't drag race, but NHRA rules state anytime you relocate the battery you have to install a master cutoff switch. The reason I mention it, is it's not only a good safety future in case of a short somewhere to prevent fires. It's also handy when you store it to just shut it off quick and prevent drains if it's going to be sitting for weeks at a time.

I had mine under the console. They were Optima so inside wasn't a problem.
The cables were 2/0 awg
And the distance was the same to the engine.
I didn't have a winch but it wouldn't be too long from the middle of the truck.

Good afternoon all, I was going to put mine in a plastic box & attach it to the floorboard behind the drivers seat.

I'm running a single in my '82 behind the driver's seat. Have run duals back there but a single has done the job for me lately. I figured that footwell area was as low as practical on the vehicle so was a good place to put the lead chunk. Tools go in that same well on the passenger side for the same reason. Keeping weight low on the vehicle is always a good thing and will make more difference than you think. If you keep it in the engine bay, mount it to cage/chassis material and as low as you can on the firewall. There's no sheetmetal that will last when you know what the word "whoop" means. Keeping it low is obvious and keeping it toward the firewall helps it see less force from pitch movement and takes weight off the front.

Behind the front seat isn't exactly a great place for access to the battery but I've managed it for 20+ years now so it's not terrible.

When I had my diesel k5 I had my 2 batteries where the console used to be.
As low and as centered to the truck as possible.
And my cable was short enough to the starter
