BB Tech Inspection

Dave, that's basically what I'm thinking as well. Not hard at all to add something like that to the registration confirmation and on the website. It's especially easier when we have a year to work it out.

Cell phone #'s of all vehicles would be good.

After this year I think my better half has decided that if the trail is rated anything but easy she will hang out in town, the pool, the cabin etc. If we knew of some people that were in town and could easily do a parts run at the store and meet a runner at the trailhead to relay a part back to the breakdown that might be cool.

Awesome list Matt...I use a similar list for camping, because if I don't I'll ALWAYS overlook something.

That would be a great add I think, especially for us noobs....

if there is anything else you can think of for that list let me know and I'll revise it.

When camping, I usually bring along a small garbage can, with extra bags, a small propane portable grille, a few cooking utensils, some wetwipes, and a couple cheap ponchos.
Also don't forget your prescription meds. Also write down any medical conditions, and some emergency contact info. so someone can have it if needed.
Toothpicks, can coolers, dishsoap (works great for cleaning your hands too)

if I don't pass tech I sure as hell aint turning around and driving 13 hours home...

Understandable. Point taken.

And with all due respect, this is where I'll remove myself from this discussion.

on the flip note I'm not going to drive 26 hours round trip with a unprepared rig. I combed over my rig a week before each of my 2 big trips this summer. Problems I had were braking a 14ff shaft (who woulda guessed. Also have a spare now) and fuel pump getting weak (I carry a spare too but wasn't quite bad enough to require installing it). I wheeled every day, did every obstacle unassisted (except big hot tub) and had one hell of a time and can't wait to do it again. Maybe instead of everyone pissing and moaning on the internet they should give their rigs a once over.... a dozen times :D

Watch, next year some asswipe will be out there selling Chevrolet SB oil filters for $50.00 just to make a buck.:D

:haha::haha::doah:

Would have sold my spare one in the back of my s10blazer for that :D, or a beer if I would have been there. But was on Prichett.

I will take a pic of the list in my glove box of the crap i carry on board with me tonight and post. Maybe some ideas for others.

Tools: most all basic hand tools, sockets, wrenchs, allens, screw drivers, pry bar, bfh, hub socket, test light, snap ring pliers, channys, wire stripper/crimpers, high lift, shovel, axe, tire tools

Misc stuff: zip ties, duct tape, elec tape, wire, first aid, snake bite kit, oil absorbent pad, multiple fire extinguishers, valve stems and cores, plug kit, patches, psi gauges, emergency blanket, misc elec wire, bag of misc bolts etc, co2 tank, paper towels, G21, bug spray

Prob missing more, just thing I can think of off the top of my head.

I carry probably that much and more - I even have a spare 465/205 adapter and 10 spine coupler, a lightweight gear reduction starter, 2 sets of jumper cables, welding rod/hood - I run an oddball oil filter(fits a John Deere tractor) - I should carry a spare one now! Although, I run a CHEVY axle in my CHEVY, not gonna hit my filter with my yoke

Back in the day, I use to carry a full tool box with just about everything until
everyone said that with all that extra weight, you might need to go to rockwells.
I dumped the box and only carry the esentials & tools.
Besides, all it did was fix everyone elses truck :doah:.
As for having someone in town run parts, it's happened to me when I lost a clutch in
the middle of spike. As I coasted down a hill in granny, the clutch locked in and almost put my buddy & me into the windshield. Then it was "Oh $hit!, I have no clutch pedal!" I preceeded to run every obstical in low without stopping.
I'd say, get the hell out of the way, coming through and I did.
Only had one time on the stairs that I didn't make and had to get a pull start.
After hitting the sand flats, I banged second, then third.
After a while, I heard cer-chunk, dam, my pedal was back.....not good.
I made it up on the exit rim and if it wasn't for the jeeps coming up and having to back up :flipoff2:
I got down to the Hwy and as I got to the stop sign, I rolled back and was done. The Trooper has never left me stranded yet.
We had called a buddies girl friend in town from the top and she picked up a clutch kit for me.
After getting towed back to Motel 6, I had 5 guys help me until 3 AM change it out and was ready for the next day.
I was leading the trail that day.
When I showed up the next morning 15 min. late, I got bitched out by Steve's x wife
who said I was out drinking all night. You don't want to know what I thought :sign4:.
My point is that we can't carry everything but between us, we can get by and almost always get out. We do have people in town that will go out of their way to help.
We never leave anyone on the trail (most of us) and with a phone call, I'll get dressed at 3 AM and come help. You can count on it :woot:.
I think that besides a few, just a list will do and if you keep breaking for no reason but lack of being prepared, you'll get a hard time you won't soon forget and maybe don't call. BUT, we all need to start somewhere :dunno:
