BBC in the first gen

I have a 71 with a big block and tall valve covers

I have personally ripped 8 of these trucks and frames apart in the last year, the only difference on the trucks is the motor mount towers,

there are two versions, the trucks that came with the 396/402 came with the big block engin towes, they are different then the small block ones and are alot more similar to the 73 and up ones.

the small block mounts, the more common style are a little further back and they will make you do a little hammer work to clear things if you choose to use them.

you have 3 options..

1.. hammer:D

2. buy the factory big block motor mount towers..they cost 50.00- 100.00 ebay and can be hard to find

3.. do what I did..

go to www.nwautofab.com

go to the product section, they are 95 bucks and the guys who run the place are very nice, informative and a great to do business with:cool1:

since i am going crazy and want to race this truck, I am actually getting motivated to push my motor back about 9 inches and rework my firewall... so that will be a very interesting time! I dont have to worry about clearing the brake booster because that is on the frame now:D

pic padding....

Shawn,

Please tell me more about that relocated brake setup....!

Is that a retrofit from another vehicle? Am I seeing that right that the brake pedal comes UP through the floor now???

:cool1: Inquiring minds want to know......!!! :cool1:

greg the link I posted above sells those brackets, they are pretty nice and high quality,

I think I payed under 170.00 for just the brakets, or something like that?

I chose to just buy the brackets, the booster and mc is from a early year s10 blazer, but I have run into clearanceing problems, the booster and mc they sell in their kit has no issues though.

yes..the pedel will come up through the floor:D

after I started thinking about moving the firewall or pushing the motor back the last thing I want to hack with is the brakes on the firewall, plus I am running an aftermarket heater so my firewall can be smooth now:woot:
