Beadlocks

im gonna be running tek screws in my steel rims. screw paying for an expensive bead lock, this is just as good (at least almost).

i like my mrt beadlocks. all steel so there strong and easy to fix.
dont really cost very much
mine were used hard by the previous owner hal frost and only damage is rock rash on the rings and a small ding on the inner bead on the rim. they hold air and dont leak any

i like the double beadlocks and setup that usa6x6.com offers. since im not running 8 lugs (yet) i would look at their site.

I would not buy anything from usa6x6!!!! After seeing friends screwed by them I would not even consider their chit.

hey wayne

why dont you like usa6x6? whats wrong with them. BIG TRUCK has a set of their wheels. hes happy with them as far as i know.

Something about paying a grand for tires then drilling screws next tothe bead is unappealing to me. Just seems like a ton of places for a leak to happen and a bunch of nasty teeth ready to claw at the inside of the tire if it folds inward.

How does one set a bead with those in there? I mean, if there are a ton of holes in the rim its gonna be really hard to seat the bead... and some big tires can be pretty difficult as it is.

I kinda' of have the same feeling about this, but one of the my good friends is currently running this setup. So far he has had no problems (35x15 TSL's on 15x8 rims) after a couple of day of trailriding. He's only running about 3-4 psi, but the rig is fairly light (stretched Sami body and frame, Toy' axles, V-8 engine).

one thing about using the screws is that its the same setup that is used on the drag racing cars. if it works with 24 inch wide tires turning at 1000-1500 horse power, i think they will hold up to crawling over rocks at 12-15 inch wide tires at 200-600 HP/

but thats only my 2 cents

drag racing and rock crawling are two wildly differnt things. drag racers use them because they are trying to keep the tire from spinning on the wheel. we use them because we dont want the bead to pop off.
very very different
save up and buy a set of eaton or mrt beadlocks.

very different ways too. Drag racers go through the edge of the rim, through the bead of the tire. Keeps it from spinning as noted.

People that screw their rims for crawling, they go up from the inside of the rim and lock the bead to the seat like a beadlock does. Screw doesn't actually go into the bead of the tire.

If crawlers did it the way that Drag racers do, I'd say they are stupid. Spend $1000 on tires then screw a bunch of screws into the bead of them :eek1:

all of you have the wrong idea about the screws. first off, it is completely different that drag cars. drag cars screw the tire to the rim, where in my setup the screws only go into the rim. the screws go in behind the bead of the tire therefore forcing it to stay against the outside lip. its like a safety bead on steriods. it will not damage the tire as long as you account for the thickness of the bead and make sure the screw goes on the inside of the tire, not into the tire. there is no way you can make the tire physically touch the point of the screw, the rubber just wont flex that much. and also with so many (24 per side) the load is spread out between probably at least 5 or 6 screws at any one time. that should be enough to carry the load of the tire wanting to shift sideways off the bead. when i do mine, i will run a dab of RVT in them, they dont leak that way. my buddy has them without the RVT and they still dont leak. here is a pic of his 39.5 TSL on a 16.5 rim, its been sitting for a few weeks with the weight of my truck on it. it hasnt lost any pressure.

seating the bead is something i though about when thinking about this. they way you would have to do it is, at least on my 15", run the screws through the actual safety bead. when you do the starter fluid trick, the tire will still have a surface to build pressure against ( the rise of the safety bead). they will still pop over the regular bead cause of this. then the tire is on the bead, just put the screws in and your done.

one thing to note, the 16.5 is running them on both sides, while i with my 15's will only be running them on the outside bead.

HMMMM, because after seeing all the problems in the past that they had, and reading their add in the vendor forum now, it does not look liked it has changed much. Good friend of mine ordered 5 rims, took forever to get them, only got 4 at once then the 5th came in and the center didn't match the other 4. 1 leaks, not exactly sure why though. If he did change his business practice then that's great for him and maybe sometime in the future I would consider his products. Oh well, doesn't matter anyhow, I ordered 5 Walker Evans beadlocks with blue rings for $1550 to my door. I should have them in about 3 weeks.
