Beag's 67 Chevelle. Supercharged Summer

So after I pulled the rear end out I got busy with a metal blade and a sawall removing the exhaust and pulling the gas tank. The pipes were actually pretty cobbled up upon further inspection. I had not planned of messing with any exhaust stuff so that will be 800 bucks of unexpected expenses.
Once I had the exhaust off I found these guys.

Pretty sure these are the first magnaflows ever made. Lol. They are at least 20 years old. Not sure I'll save them or if they will go to the scrap pile yet. I'll have to see what they looked like inside. If decent I'll put them on my dump truck.

Closest it will ever be to doing a wheelstand. :eek1:

I had figured out once I had put the car on jackstands that the exhaust needed some TLC. So I ordered up some porter mufflers.
They are a steel packed straight through design. I wanted something that wasn't the standard flowmaster sound. These should be a good sound. But who know who they will sound with 3" pipes and a x pipe?:rotfl::confused::thinking:.
Got the center in/ offset outlet if I need to change to a different muffler down the road IMG_20200331_151402909.jpg

Better get some electric cutouts to go with that new exhaust!
I've been debating cutouts for awhile now. Currently the cutouts are not in the budget. I'm pretty much broke over this car right now. But I might add the cut out pipes and just cap them. And buy the electric cutouts later. I am probably 1200-1800 dollars away from having everything I need, so 400 bucks in cuts out is added expense that I don't need right now.

Tires will chew up a grand. And I'm not entirely sure what's left is on my list to purchase but it's not as short as I would like....

Martin would never build a pro touring style car. Rust touring?, Field touring?......

Anyway. I got the POS 10 bolt out of the car I put it on a trash can to get it striped down.
As I had previously posted I had a bitch of time getting the center pin out. The pin retaining bolt didn't break. Just the pin wouldn't move. So I ended up beating on it like rental car.
It did start moving and I ended up cutting it with a cut off wheel a few times to get it out.
Got it out and pulled the axles. The driver side brake drum was pretty wet. Not sure if it was brake fluid or gear lube. Did not do a taste test, but it seems like brake fluid.
The brake line to the passenger side had a Dr. Seuss loopdedoo in it. That was mint.

Once I got the axles pulled I knocked off the brake backing plates.
The backing plate bolts must have been put on the by the hulk himself. Goodness!

Then finally I pulled the pressed in bushings for the upper control arms.

If you have dual 3" don't bother with the cutouts. My friend did that with his ZZ427 in his Chevelle, dual 3" with cutouts, and on the chassis dyno when he opened the cutouts nothing happened. Also, the cutouts are right by the radius for straight back flow when open, however, when closed its like a the exhaust can take tow different paths, and one is a dead end that could create pressure pulses when they bounce back. I feel like it may have potentially made more power without the cutouts ever even installed on there. I told him with dual 3" he was wasting his money and was creating funny flow paths, but he wanted them. He doesn't like the sound either, it's like a mixture of open and muffled and it sounds like a huge exhaust leak inside the car.

Now, if you have 3" cutouts with a 2.5" exhaust, or 4" cutouts with a 3" exhaust, then it makes sense (assuming you actually need the extra flow). But considering the 3" is overkill for your engine (unless you plop a supercharger on it or something), you don't need cutouts unless you want the noise, and it looks like you will have plenty of that with your mufflers?

The cutout idea would be for pissing off my old man neighbor that already hates me. Lol.
As an FYI the 3 inch is just preparation for any engine that might come down the road. Definitely overkill for a the 300-325 hp 350 cubes it has now.

Burnouts with a full exhaust will still get the desired effect.
He complains about my stock 454 with 2.5s dual exhaust and flowmasters.
Of course he complains about everything. So who really cares.
I quit talking to him a year ago because I got tired of listening to him. Now I just walk the other way. Mind my own business, even though he can't.
