Beag's 67 Chevelle. Supercharged Summer

Back to the POS 10 bolt

I loaded it up to see my favorite sandblaster dude. The sandman.
(Eagle eye readers may remember this rig from my stagnant 79 build. This is the same dude that blasted my 79 frame/axles back in 1999.)

Once I there, he got to work taking care of 53 years worth of grime and dirt.
Quite honestly this thing didn't hardly have any rust on it. But sandblasting is just a great way to clean stuff for lazy people like me. Once done, it's paint ready.

He blasted the 10B and the driveshaft we talked about his 69 dart a bit. And he told me about how he used to race around with a 5 brothers back in the day. They always had Chevy's...... He never said who would win. But I know those guys and I'm guessing they had faster stuff.
I paid him his 50 bucks and I was out of there.

Hmmm...5 brothers....:burnout:

This thread is giving me motivation to get back on doing something with my crusty blue turd.

Once I got the axle and driveshaft home I shot some zinc rich primer on it.
Guess I didn't get a picture of the fresh sandblasted parts, but it was nice seeing the casting numbers and stamping numbers for the first time. IMG_20200418_170041818_HDR.jpg

After I shot some paint I ordered a new center pin that I cut, and new axles seals and some miscellaneous crap for my Wife's Cadillac- how does rock Auto charge so much for shipping? Sometimes I'm not sure rockauto is worth it.

Anyway, I Thought about some axle bearings, but the old ones looked decent and I'm to lazy for that. I need this under the car, not on the worlds jankiest saw horses in my yard.

Why is the diff cover shaped like that? Did Gale Banks test that design?

That SO needs an eyebrow and angry eyeball painted on it.
That's funny. I watched those Gale banks videos to.
I thought the exactly the same thing.
I would say they definitely did that for fluid dynamics. As the oil falls down it's directed towards is a axle tubes.
If it's a good/ needed design I kind wonder why it went away. Probably because they figured out it's so violent in there it doesn't matter. None the less that cover goes away in the coming postings.
But I could stick some googly eyes on it for you?

Sounds good, get it done. :D
It's not an empty threat. I have a Ziploc bag of googly eyes in my shop.

Where they came from or how I got them I have absolutely zero idea.....

I feel like I make an effort to stick googly eyes on it I'll have to hang it on my wall for garage art?

I have those same sawhorses. You might want to put all the screws in them and they would be better. Geez and you think you can build a car! Paint that axle and driveshaft orange!

Why would I go through all that time and expense! Come on now!

the saw horses brackets were given to me and I just tossed them together... For a project.. I have like three other good I-beam sets that I made.
Lol.

Driveshaft is already painted bud. I said before I'm behind in postings.

Let's put that 10b on hold for a second.

When I realized I was going to mess with the exhaust. I messaged @folkenheath to see where there was a good ceramic coating place. I had used a place back in ?2008/09? So I knew of a place but I thought I would ask.
My plan was to pop the headers off and have them coated and put them back on.
He let me know of a place, which was the same place I had used way back when.
But he warned me that it was probably rather expensive. It might be cheaper to just by new. I told him I had checked that out and I was on my way.
Fast forward to the day I pulled them off and they weren't quite in the shape I expected them to be. Usable but not sure that I was willing to stick 250-300 bucks in them.
So I scanned summit. And found a set of their house brand stainless steel headers for 337.
So I figure it costs me 90 bucks for the upgrade to stainless.
Once they showed up I checked the fit on the passenger side since there is not clutch linkage there (easier) they fit quite nicely.
Unfortunately I couldn't leave it in because I needed to modify it.
Some of the pipes have different bends but pretty close to the old ones.

Looks like you have more time to finish it now.
Well I just need to hammer out my plan. Powertour is the first week of June.
And I need some drive time to make sure my EFI has time to learn and make sure everything works as planned.
Lately waiting for little parts has been holding me up some. Which is annoying.

We ran a set of the summit brand ceramic coated headers in my son's 72. He had probably only about 1000 miles on it when it got wrecked/sold.. but they still looked great then. They very mildly discolored when we started it up being a fresh engine break in. But it didn't hurt them.

I'm planning on buying another set myself.

Stainless would be better though yeah lol.

Damn they screwed with a few things.
The finishing spot isn't in Wisconsin any more.
I have been checking every couple of days to see even emailed them a few times.
Shit, It looks like I need change my hotels now.

And I wonder how that will go with a 8 month pregnant wife?:haha::rotfl:

Hmm... Maybe I can turn it into a longhauler now?
I was never going to happy about doing it until I got the longhauler status sticker across the windshield of the velle.
