So after 6 years of back and forth, still no payments and he sends me a message thru Adam to come pick up the truck. He spent so much money replacing good stuff on the truck but didn't bother paying for the truck.
It's been sitting under a tree, getting infested by rats, and he used the bed as a long term garbage can.
I picked it up Sunday afternoon and I am at a crossroad.
Do I spend time I don't have to finish the truck and possibly make a lot more money, or just sell it as is?
It's not far from being a good running truck but I have limited space and even less time.
What do you think?

I think I remember this truck.

What is left to get it running?
Well he discarded the master cylinder and booster thinking he will get a new one.
He didn't.
He put msd 6al ignition and adjusted the valves at the same time and now it won't start.
He changed the wiring harness and I see wires so not sure he finished.
It needs a few days just for cleaning.
That's what I know.
Will have to check to see what else is needed.

It has a built 402 BBC and a built th400.
New single piece driveshaft new battery, new radiator and electric fan.
1972 front suspension with disc brakes.
New white faced gauges and as you see a floor shifter

Any vehicle is worth more if it runs, drives and stops...
If it wont take too long to get it to that point you will get a lot more for it..
I know that time is money though, and if your unable to spend time getting it to that point, then you'll get less money for it..but after seeing what similar trucks up here in similar condition have for asking prices,I'd say with a 402 it'll likely bring good money anyways..
I posted one CL ad on the craigslist thread a while back, showing a similar truck with a "stuck" 454 and much worse overall condition listed for over 4 grand..and the ad is gone,so it probably sold..!

I've been debating whether to try selling my '85 Suburban K10 as a plow truck,I need money bad for house repairs--but with a ailing 700R4 in it,I know most buyers will want it for scrap value, even though it has a nice Diamond snowplow setup and a diesel..

I dont really have the ability or money to swap a good tranny in it,or pay someone too either,I'd likely end up spending whatever extra profit it would bring for the used transmission and labor cost..a wash..and I'd hate to sell it for scrap value when it still has potential..

Why he get booted? I saw him around before I was a regular poster.

IIRC there was something to do with not paying Lawrence for some 22 ammo??? I could totally be thinking of something else tho.

Issaam, get that thing running and do badass burnouts. :burnout: What else would we tell you to do with it? :dunno: :haha:

yep, from what I remember he owed at least one member $$ so he got the boot.

That's the reason he did get booted.
He did pay it to someone who covered it for him.
I made sure of that.

There is a really decent market for those trucks now isn't there?

Not going to be the same as if it was running and driving, but I'm pretty sure people only get exactly the vehicle they want on TV shows....whoever buys it would change stuff around even if it was running.

Non running motor and trans are worthless imo, or at most worth a core charge, but if you can sell the truck as-is and not feel like you lost your pants in the deal, I agree, extra time and hassle simply isn't worth the money you *might* get out of it if it was running, especially if you've got better things to spend your life doing.

Don't give it away of course, but the right buyer in a good market will alleviate some of the hurt. :)

I think I will at least clean it.
Then if I have a day to figure out why it stopped running then I will take care of the brakes and it will be a running complete vehicle.
I will assess what else is wrong or missing but I don't think I will do more.

Those trucks are pretty desirable in CA at least. A running and stopping vehicle would get you a bunch more I’d imagine, especially since longer distance buyers wouldn’t have to tow it back home.

Those trucks are pretty desirable everywhere. Shit I’d love to have one in the future. Especially out of California where the rust isn’t so bad.

Let's face it. It's a old Chevy. They all are desirable. Especially with the internet and TV bringing more and more exposure to cars/trucks/hot rodding/ etc, etc. Plus we have more people and more money then before.
Granted I believe that 75% of vehicles that first time hot rodders buy never get finished.

That's true
In my case I have way too many so I don't start what I can't finish.
In my 20's I wasted my time restoring old French cars, never really got any money out of it but I did get the experience.
I also learned customizing since some parts were either discontinued or too expensive so I adapted from what was available.
Now I have a growing family and no time to do what I can do with cars.
