I know you acn "beef up" a 10 bolt but the $ invested would go better towards at least a 12 bolt. Are we talking rear or front? If the rear I would swap a 12 bolt or even a 14 bolt(that's what I'm doing). The front...well the Dana 44 is not that much stronger, but worth the try.Are you planning on installing some kind of lockers?I see you are running 35" tires....Don't wheel too hard and they might last a couple seasons. But I would just upgrade now and get the larger diffs.Sell the 10 bolts while they are all together.

Well, my mechanic said he has buiilt quite some many 10bolts with lockers and posis in em alike.. and none have failed on him or his customers.. and he ran 44's (i dont think he ran them on a 10bolt cuz it was a dodge but he used to have a cehvy truck or something)

You can get the new unbreakable u-joints... chrome molly axle shafts.. truss it up. If you go with a 30 spline and replace the carrier with a locker like an arb or something then that makes them pretty strong.....

I was thining about upgrading my 12 bolt. The last time I checked, good replacement axle shafts for the 12 bolt were $99 a piece! The 10 bolt shafts are the same price! So I went to the local bone yard and picked up a 14 bolt FF for $150.

Now, no more worries! I can always count on my 14 bolt! It's the 10 bolt front that I worry about! Hopefully, that'll be gone soon too! As soon as I come up with the cash.

As a recent convert to the 1 Ton club, I can honestly say I am very glad I didn't invest any money in my 10b. For less money than it takes to up grade the 10b you can have an almost indestructable 14B. To each his own, but I am very gald I did it.

Ever heard that old saying, "Throwing good money after bad."?

I would be thinking about selling your 4.56 10 bolt to get some of your money back and getting a 4.56 14FF and 3/4 ton front upgrade to your front axle.

I second what Russ just said. I wasted alot of money fixing broken parts form my 10bolts.

How much stronger are 14bolts or 12 bolts than built 10bolts and why?

where do you live?
$650US for a 14bolt
they are in the trader for $150-200 CANADIAN here
what is the exchange at like $0.60
I have read someone from the south east US claim the same crazy numbers

A local auto salvage in Leavenworth, KS. I bought mine for $150. NoShow84 bought his for $130 and the guy said the next one we buy will be $100. But we looked all over that stinkin junk yard and couldn't find another one! So much for the great deal! Still haven't been able to find a Front Dana 60 though! I thought I had one for $500 obo this past weekend, but the King pin is stripped out of the axle. So the housing is basically scrap!

You can put in chrome moly axle shafts for around $250. Dutchman
(Portland, Oregon), Warn, Moser and others carry them. This will
basically upgrade your axle to the equivalent of a 12-bolt in strength.

I think Warn sells a full floater kit for the 10-bolt. This would probably
make it equivalent of a 14 bolt full-floater. The full floater kit does include
chrome moly axles. Cost of this is around $800.

This is about all you can do. I upgraded my 12-bolt to full-floater with
chrome moly axles. The hubs are Dana 60 1 ton's. I decided to go this
route as I wanted to keep my bead locks (6 bolt) and was going to 4.10's
and ARB which I already had. So this made since.

I cannot argue with the advice of going with a Corp 14 FF in the rear
though. According to the specs of my set-up, I believe I have the
equivalent of this with my 12-bolt, and I'm lighter and have more
ground clearance.

10-bolt ring and pinions look like a childs toy when compared to 14-bolt ring and pinions.

It's a great day to be alive...

the housing is far from junk
any good 4x4 shop can knock that knuckle off and put a new one on
it is old hat to them as they have to take them off to cut n turn

I have found 14b sf to be worth more in selling (especially the 6 lugger ones) then 14b ff... might wanna look into this.... if you can sell it for a good price you can go with the 14b ff and then buy that $750 dana 60 front. Because here I can't find a dana front for under $2000....
