I was also wondering this, I have been thinking of building some shackles for quite a while and these are very beef looking. Wanna build me a set?

mofugly, very nice rig, we are building similar rigs. my 73' also has a newer front clip, i've got the 383 allready, the list goes on,and on. are you a machinist? i am, i make and fab alot of myown stuff too.

84GMCJimmy and Highrlr: I bent the 3/8 flat bar by cutting about halfway through and beating ti with a hammer, after I got the right angle I was looking for, I welded up the gap with a good thick, hot weld. This was suggested to me in this post by 85mudblazin
MuddyBlzr, the color is gold, the PO had it painted, It's got lots of little dings and chips, the AFTER shots make it look good 'cause it's a really nice day out, the BEFORE pics were taken on overcast days, it's all the same paint job, when I do paint it, it's going to be a VERY dark metallic forest green.
rdn2Blazer, no I am not a machinist, just very interested in/fascinated by metal fabrication, particularly machining operations. I bought my lathe, an old Sheldon WS56P, before I had ever seen one in use. I was mostly interested in gunsmithing. I started frequenting the Machinist's Workshop BBS to learn about machining and knew I wanted a lathe. So the Sheldon came up on Craigslist for $400 and I snatched it up. Now, having taught myself a lot about lathe operations, I realize what an awesome deal I got. I can't wait to pick up a milling machine, when I find one for the right price. It's so awesome knowing what can be done with machine tools and knowledge.
Thanks for all the good things you all said about my K5! I didn't slap my CK5 Built Not Bought sticker on it until I had actually built it, myself. I will also be putting a painless wiring kit in pretty soon, too.
Again, thanks to everyone who helped me. Both directly by answering my ???'s, and indirectly, by builing your own stuff and letting me read about it/look at it on this site.

rdn2blazer, I could make you a set if you like, but I will have to warn you now, that sometimes I tend to lag, and with deer season just around the corner, I wont have a lot of time until mid October. I really dont know what they cost me to build, but I'd only charge you for the material, as I'd eat the labor as more 'fabrication practice'. They cost me $60 to get powdercoated, so I'd probably leave painting/powdercoating up to you. Lemme know if you're interested.

Better yet, just buy my NP205 that I have for sale and bolt it right in. Ooops, hijack...... I like forest green too but the existing color is similar to what I'd like to paint mine. A nice desert tan is where I plan on going eventually with my 76. It will be a pain painting over all the blue though. I wheel a lot in Nevada though. Green would be a good color for the Sierras and for mountain wheeling.
