I get a kick looking at how clean and stock everyones truck used to be. I hope I dont go the wheelin route with my truck, concidering that most off the truck were pretty nice just like mine.
Its not even body damage (from hitting rocks, etc.) that kills the bodies on K-series trucks.
The frame flex wreaks havoc on the body too. Mine always used to sound like a soda can being crushed when the suspension flexed (you could hear the sheet metal popping). I had problems with the body flexing so far from the frame that I couldn't get the clutch to disengage

. Poly body mounts fixed that for a while but you could tell it was getting worse before I cut most of the body off.
When I cut mine apart it wasn't too terrible looking but the body was totally shot. The cab/roof was almost completely torn away from the bed (you could see big cracks in the sheetmetal on both sides), the rear fenders were only held on by a dozen or so spot welds (there were probably 50+ holding them on from the factory) and even with the poly body mounts I was developing the same issues with the clutch (the body had very little structural integrity at that point). No serious rust issues, it had just been wheeled.
IMO, its just a matter of time until the body gives out on these trucks. You can continually fix/repair them, but
it will happen. Maybe some will last longer than mine did, maybe not.
I'm not trying to scare people off from wheeling their trucks. My dad 4 wheeled this truck a lot before he ever gave it to me and I sure as hell have not been easy on it. These trucks aren't new: the older they get the weaker everything gets (frame, body, rivets, etc.).
Get out there, wheel your truck, and have fun but don't expect your truck to be perfect and last forever if you are wheeling it
