Are bell housing covers from the different trans. (TH400, TH350, etc..) interchangeable? In other words, will a cover from a TH350 fit on a TH400?
make sure the bolt holes are the same size. Ive had so many different gm th350 trannies and have seen small bolts retain the cover, and ive seen big bolts. If the bolt holes in the tranny match the bolt holes in the cover, its a go. I believe all th700r4's and th400's have the bigger bolts that retain the cover.
The 4 small sheet metal screws are used on 2WD tranny's and the 6 large 3/8" bolts are used on 4WD tranny's.

!!Really????
So my TH350 is a 2WD then!
This kind of pisses me off. And now I find oot I got screwed by a member!!
Dumb question: What's the difference between a 2WD TH350 and a 4WD TH350?
Yep, if your tranny only has 4 small holes it is a 2WD tranny case.
The 4WD trans uses a shorter output shaft (sure you knew that) the case is a bit thicker in the bell housing area and uses 6 3/8" bolts to fasten the aluminum convertor cover rather than 4 sheet metal screws to fasten either the plastic or sheet metal cover of a 2WD trans.

!!I don't use the covers anymore, I pulled mine once when I felt a vibe after powerwashing the whole truck and found out that mud had pressed itself in there from when i was stuck in a mud pit and ripped off all the weights on the torque convertor when the mud dried and had to be replaced.
(newbie I know)
