Belts helps

Looks like a long one to me. Its only about 1/2 difference.

74 350. Aft groove for crank, ps and a/c.
If all is aligned and correct pulleys and correct diameters only thing is the pump. Aftermarket new or rebuilt?
Is the belt you have for a/c the one that's called for a 350 or a variation.

Are you sure the crank pulley is the right diameter and not to big putting the belt to close to the pump.?

Thanks for the help.....great pictures and clean engine! I may have a chance to check it out again tomorrow. It's a new, aftermarket pump from NAPA. Grooves are right size. From your pics, looks like it's a tight squeeze anyway. I'm guessing the pump is just out of spec a bit. I'll get back to you. Thanks again.

Oh, and I'll check the size of the pulley with yours as a reference too.

Yes I have a/c also.
The fwd ps belt goes around the wp , crank and ps.
The aft belt crank, ps and A/c.
The alt belt is crank, Wp and alt.

Yes. Just asked my son , who will be driving it, if he wants the top on or off most of the time. He said on. So I want to have the ac available.

My top has been off for years and I still like the a/c on hot days, especially on warm summer nights cruising that cool air is a nice touch blowing around and on Bi-level cool air at your feet is good also when the floor gets warm from the headers.

then your air is mounted lower than his is, by the angle of your belts to his. Just curious as to where your air is mounted in relation to his.

He has the A6 compressor set up as was from the factory. Same as mine even tho I'm using the a shorter aftermarket compressor but it's in the same position on the engine as factory. Uses the same hose manifold also.

The A6 (long) compressor is positioned to run off off the aft pully grove on those early setups.

Either way the the belts ride on the power steering pully first after the crank and that s dictates the angle.

Looks to me like his crank pully is bigger than mine tho. Could be why he had trouble getting the correct belt. IDK.

The later models went to the radial style compressor and may have been driven off the off the fwd ps pully groove and wp but I've never owned one so I don't know.

Gentlemen......problem solved. I hit it just a little with a grinder, then found I was able to free up a little more clearance by tightening (moving down) the ps pump first, then the ac. Thanks everyone for your help, I learned a lot.
