BENDER stays in hibernation with me

Since you are in california like me how are you going to smog this thing? It sounds like your combo is going to not pass the sniffer test.

it's a clean motor, low comp, mild cam
it's the visual I'm more worried about
I'll have one extra vacuum line for the distributor
other than that, it's all there and functional

Do you have an 86 blazer or truck? Sorry, dunno what scottsdale model is.

I have that sitting in my garage w/ computer.
I'm running an older, non-computer, q-jet
I may have to switch them out for smog however, unsure at this time
there are a few visual things, but it has the air pump, egr, and cat required by the emission's sticker. It will run clean w/all vacuum lines working. If it becomes a headache, I'll go down FI route, or swap back in the CCC system
dunno

I to am running a non CC quadrajet. I was told by my local smog guy that as long as it is hooked up like the schematic on the grill support i was GTG. Mine is 100% stock except for the edelcrap headers i have. I just picked up a set of stock manifold and now that have 2 weeks off those will be on there shortly. But yeah in stock form there is a good 2 dozen different vacuum lines on th manifold. I am running the 290 horse GM replacement engine so its got plenty of pep for what i want it for. I just want reliabilty.

nice
can't wait to be part of the "running" crowd so I can get out, wheel, and have some fun meeting new people. There are so many folks within 100 miles of me.

god dammit
I put a bunch of stuff on the intake (carb, vacuum lines, this and that) and went to top off the radiator with some distilled water and..................the intake is leaking. From the very back, passenger side.

Great. This was my first time putting an intake on, but it went smoothly and I followed the gasket instructions. Now I get to take it all apart, back to where I was 2 months ago. Maybe worse, cause it might have leaked into the lifter valley and contaminated the oil. Wonderful

If the heads were resurfaced on the manifold side (sometimes they do that) then you will have an issue. Unless you torqued them down incorrectly or cracked the manifold i dont know why it would be leaking. What brand gaskets did you use?

felpro performance

I've come to the conclusion it was just torqued in the wrong sequence and wrong amount.

Sorry dude. What a pain. The best thing they did on later model engines is use those plastic, reusable intake manifold gaskets. They almost never leak. I know you used some silicone on the gasket, right?

I used some ultra gray permatex for the ends and gray gasket maker stuff on the gaskets, real thin like. I used the Felpro performance series with blue stuff on them.

I'm torn though, I've been told by some to only put permatex on the ends and to leave the gaskets dry, especially with the felpro with blue stuff.

I don't know what difference it would make to put silicone in certain spots and not others. I think the manifold is just warped. Either it didn't get torqued in the right pattern when it was put on or it was just warped when you got it. I've had to use a sanding block on the part where the carb bolts onto the intake manifold before to smooth the surface out so there wouldn't be any vacuum leaks. Maybe you could do the same on the other side. Are you sure the gasket didn't slip out of place a little in the back corner while you were putting everything together?

fairly certain the gasket and everything went back together nice
once I get it apart (hopefully Friday) I can tell what went wrong
otherwise I have a new set of gaskets and a little more info for this next try
just kinda sucks to keep spending money, prolly went do the lifter valley, hope not, but I'm bracing for it.

well, got everything back together and it's still holding coolant :)
95% of my hoses are ran
carb is on, though I can't seem to move my secondary butterflies, almost like they are stuck or seized up
95% of the wires are ran, I just need to drop dizzy and connect battery/tach, then run an extra line for the AC system.
There are still lots of odd-ball stuff like vacuum for the AC system and faking some electrical connections at various points.
I put power to the truck and found some odd things that need attention.
Headlights/ highbeams don't work
highbeam indicator comes on when attempting to turn on headlights
no driver side rear blinker/brake light
no rear dome (checked twice, there is continuity, had it working, now it's not)
battery isolator has constant continuity, even with everything disconnected (WTF?)
constant power to windows, no key needed
door locks don't work, push button and I hear a "click" sound under the dash

Good:
windows work nicely, including rear window and new switch
under dash dome and door triggers work nice, overhead dome is nice (LEDs)
blinkers, running lights, brake lights work (except rear driver, only running light)
gauges, AC controls, gear indicator light look good. I've got no fan or vac controls currently though

tomorrow the new headache starts
still can't get it fired up:mad:

I am way jealous of your new wiring harness. I have been eyeing them for a couple years now. I just keep finding more important stuff that needs my attention.
You are doing a great job. :waytogo:

Whatccarb and what kind of manifold. I mean is it square bore carb to square bore mani or spread bore to spread bore right? Believe me it happens. lol

oem q-jet
1/4" gasket mates with carb nicely it seems
pro products intake, for both spread or square, the square needs their adapter plate. The opening is all curvy :)

Andyblack: I know, just pisses me off how limited my knowledge and help is. People asking me about it, even those that know 1k% more than I do, but can't seem to help me......Those people really annoy me.
"Is it running yet?"
STFU

Grundy: thanks man
