so what so great. i have a few now. a lot of people seem to want them. i would think you would have a better drive shaft angle.

thanks

also your pinion is not so low so you have a less likeley chance of catching a u joint strap ,or getting a u joint hung on something...

imo its kinda a double edge sword...you get a chevy dodge 60 if you are doing a flext suspention you gonna have to invest some money in cvs or shafts (your choice)...im gonna be running a hp and can prolly get away with a ground out cv (hopefully 4 inches of lift)..

now you have to change your transfer case, deffinitley get crossover, the axle has to be a 78-79,and you might have to change your exhaust...my reasoning was i got a deal on a drivers drop doubler and it snowballed from there...

the biggest downfall about ford axles are that the knuckles are weaker...i saw vt blazer break his knuckle with 39s and hydro assist...

high steer of corse..

i got two old ford 1 tons for 600 bucks. was told its a fair price so i got them. both trucks are shot. but all there. now i have a bunch of 1 ton chevy and ford stuff.
still running out of room

you have to make sure they are 78-79 axles...if so you got a gold mine...you can tell because 80 and up they moved the diff over and the drivers side axle tube is shorter at least thats the way i always tell...

built ford tuff.. lol

mine has chevy knuckles on it rather than the mentioned ford ones known to fail. for my project it made it nice so I could use a divorced case rather than deal with bolting up to the tranny and getting all the adapters..$$

i like the idea of a drivers drop though, easy to navigate rocks, although even in a chevy you learn where your diff is real quick..

as i failed to say not all the 80 and up axles are all bad you just cant run leaves with them under our trucks..if you were linking (saw supersizes pic) and going to coils you would be fine running an 80 and up axle..

they are both 79s. not really sure what they are worth. i know there is a many miles on them. thats for sure

Having your driveshaft up higher is a major benefit offroad. It greatly reduces the risk of damaging driveshafts on rocks, stumps, etc. HP gears are stronger also as mentioned.

HP 60's generally fetch $1200-1500+ depending on shape. If they are in good shape people will pay more. They are coveted for the HP and they were only made for a short term so they are worth more then Chevy & Dodge 60's.

86 and up. from 80-85.5 f350's were ttb.

what is ttb? also, for the complete high mileage ford you think 1500 is a good price? i could use the room thanks

They are all wrong, they aren't worth but $500 for both, but me being the nice guy I am will give you $600 for both of them :D:rolleyes:

Really though they are right, I have sold one for $1200 the whole truck and he just wanted the front axle

he said whole truck for 1500. didnt pay anywhere near that. could use the room

although ppl have gotten that for them, only a retard would pay that for a 78-79 60... ive seen numerous 78-79 60s go for $600-800 and if i would of had that kind of disposable income at the time, one would be on my truck currently

most of the benefits have already been mentioned... such as stronger gearsets, better driveshaft angles, and overall added clearance under the yoke. they also have dual piston calipers. not real sure how much better they stop compared to chevy large single piston calipers though, so take it for what its worth... the biggest reason most ppl want these axles over a chevy 60 is the vast quantity of late model truck owners such as myself that want to SAS their trucks, and after the demise of the "73-87" chevys and the >93' dodges all manufacturers switched to driver side drop differentials obviously making the ford axles more appealing for such swaps as it allows said person to keep their stock transfer case (excluding np246s) i however took the much more involved route and went with a chevy axle, but we wont get into that
