benefit of running a high pinion ford 60

i just bought this
Picture150.jpg

1979 ford f350 for 500 bucks :D

what is ttb? also, for the complete high mileage ford you think 1500 is a good price? i could use the room thanks
ttb is twin traction beam. its fords name for their IFS used from 80-96. the f350's were this same ifs from 80-85.5.

although ppl have gotten that for them, only a retard would pay that for a 78-79 60... ive seen numerous 78-79 60s go for $600-800 and if i would of had that kind of disposable income at the time, one would be on my truck currently

Ford HP 60's generally go for ~$1500 out here.

got lucky i guess. got 2 complete trucks for 600. with that would happen more often

make sure they are 78-79 cause if not they aint worth to much...you still got a deal but not not to many people running leaves can use them...

yes i know they are. looks like there both gone. works out need room for a crew cab now anyway

the majority that ive seen where on pirate and the like, but a couple where in local classifieds, its been a lil while since ive seen one that low. but if someone is patient enough they should come across one

it think it depends alot on the year of the axle too...a 78-79 will cost you 12-1500 bucks depending on the condition...

The one that I had was rebuilt and had GM outers on it and I sold it for $1100. I just got another one yesterday on a trade. I had an 85 (yes 85, got the BOM #) that I couldn't use/didnt' want to use in my Blazer. I traded a rear axle that I bought for $400, got the HP and a rebuilt 4L80 trans. When I find them, I get them for either $87 or $125, depending what yard I go to......

late year 85's would have a solid axle.

they also have dual piston calipers. not real sure how much better they stop compared to chevy large single piston calipers though

I'm not hijacking the thread but I have a small question on his reply, I'm curious to know if anyone else has felt any difference between the 2 calipers?
I have a line on a HP60 and I'm not sure if it's worth keeping the ford calipers without knowing if the difference will be greater or obsolete over the chevy calipers.

And from what i hear you also have to do a remote oil filter.

At the very least it's mandatory to run the shorter version filter, found that out the hard way. :doah:
No rips or spills but the huge dent didn't go unnoticed for long.

The Ford knuckles are to weak point when running high steer and can certainly be converted over to chevy knuckles but those break too.
Best cure is to use some of them orange ones. :D

i dont know but i read the bible on pirate and it said you could put up to 3 inches of backspacing 15s on a ford 60 and i dont know how...mine has 16.5 and the calipers are huge ...they are about to touch the 16.5s....it also said since ford runs a 5 bolt spindle you can put all the 3/4 ton ford stuff on the 60 (calipers, backing plates) and the 3/4 ton stuff still uses 2 pistion calipers..
