i just bought an 83 diesle 4 speed mercades. and its the slowest thing ive ever experienced. anyone know how to wake it up a bit?

my buddy had an 83 240d with a 4 speed. that was by far the SLOWEST vehicle i have ever driven. i could beat it walking in a 1/4 mile.
we couldnt figure out anyway to wake it up so i ran it over with my truck

My grandfather has I think a 78 300D automatic, I believe its a Inline 5 and makes 77 HP? its got lots of torque, but still SLOW.

Actually, there is a way to wake it up a bit. Diesel mercedes have adjustable fuel pressure regulators, and you can turn the fuel pressure up on them to gain some more power. It still wont be a rocket ship but 40 mpg is pretty good. My brothers will sit and do a power brake burnout all day (240d inline 4 with 251K)

my buddies you could redline it and dump the clutch and it wouldnt even chirp the tires
the good runing ones are good for about 55mph MAX or thay wont last long at all. and no major revs . thats all buddy.

Is it a turbo? A buddy of mine had a 78 240D with a 4spd that we used as a beater field car when we were little kids (12 yrs old) Ripping the exhaust off over a rock outcropping woke the thing right up. (tearing off the oil cooler lines didnt help though) If it is a turbo 300 I can find you a couple links that will make that car sing.
