I've found a couple wrecking yard 454 motors in interesting in taking home with me. One is out of a 93 and other is out of an early 80's.

I notice Jegs and summit seem to have more part selection for the older 2-piece seal blocks. Any advantage/disadvantage to the newer block other than the main seal (which I prefer over the 2-piece)?

There are 3 versions, gen IV, V & VI. I'm sure that there's an argument that they're all good but I prefer the 2 pc gen IV's just for the easy mass coverage. I would probably stay away from a gen V simply because its a short run version and interchangeability is a hair more difficult. The gen VI is supposed to be really nice with lots of all around interchangeability and improvements but I have no experience with them.

Run from the TBI, no tune ability. Just get any one then and put some after market aluminum heads. Get a good intake and then get a self tuning injection system.

Leak free as possible, TBI powered, budget power, aluminum heads.

bbc + budget + aluminum heads = :ROLFLMAO::lol:p

x2 on this option . anymore I would say skip tbi and do holley sniper or fitech unit .

also get rid of the tiny cam they get stock . but this also requires new valve spings.

ha ha. I meant that I'm already over budget on weight so that's why I need the aluminum heads.

I'm also already set up to tune and burn chips for TBI so that's the part of the budget that I was trying to keep. I may go after market injection later but for now this is the way it's going to be

why not put a stock TBI engine in there? Upgrade and do your chip burning later. @MAXMAN has a complete 454 TBI setup for sale.

I can't remember but I believe some of the early 90s tbi big blocks are oddball and there isn't much you can do with them.
