That is the book I got my dad for xmas a couple years back. He's built two sweet running q-jets for me since then so it paid for itself. I've built a couple before, but just don't have the time or the paitence to do the job right. Between the book and robbing every q-jet we ever saw of its rods, jets and hangers at the boneyards for a few years, we have enough to get us by between the two of us. Still, I drove the k5 up to my Dad, gave him the money for the kit and said have at it! Took care of work stuff around denver for a couple of days and he had it all tweaked and ready to rock.

The book is so much better to refer to than the little diagrams they give in the kits. Plus the tuning tips are the best.

If you are going to tackle q-jet rebuild don't forget to seal up the casting plugs at the bottom of the main body (above the throttle plate). q-jets are known to leak there and is where some of the bad rap comes from. Leaks from this area will make it run rich, idle irractic and give you fits if you are tyring to tune it. plus, fuel leaks out over time (like sitting overnight) so that when you go to start it the next day you have to crank and pump the snot out of it to get it to start. Fix the leak by covering the plugs with J-B weld or other fuel safe epoxy.

As long as you can keep your foot out of the secondaries, it will deliver more fuel economy than the holley and the edlebrock carbs will. I used to get 20 mpg out of the mild 350 in my 69 nova with a Pa Built q-jet. MPG went down almost 4 mpg once I switched to a holley on that car.

Q-jet. I have an Edel Q-jet on my rig, and it runs really well. I don't open the secondaries very often. Buy the book, learn how it works, tune it to your engine. Make sure you start with a good carb to begin with. I've run standard Edel squarebores, on road they are ok, but off road they don't run real well.

Doug Roe does, and he wrote a book about it. Carbs are carbs, put it on, put some ballpark jets in it, figure out what the screws do, find a open stretch of road, and drive a bit, turn a screw, drive some more, etc., until it runs the way you want it to. They can be intimidating at first, but trial and error is the only way to figure them out. If that's not an option, find a shop that knows carbs, or better yet has a chassis dyno, and have them do it.

how do you like ur edel q-jet are they the same as a factory q-jet?

I think the quad is the best too. In addition to that a well tuned quad will give you better gas mileage (providing you stay out of the throttle) than a square bore like the truck avenger

books have an ISBN # on the back usually around the upc code its unique to that book no other book has it kinda like ur social security #! can you post that up here so i can get my local book store to order that book

I'm getting ready to order the book from Summit, it's about $15. My truck came with the Edel Q-jet when I bought it, so I can't compare it to stock or know if it needed tuning. I would definately recommend it though, it runs really well. My 350 is pretty much stock with a Comp cam and Edel Performer manifold, and it runs just as strong as any TBI or Vortec truck I've driven. It will start with two pumps and a quick crank after sitting for a week, and drives well. I need to tune the transition between the primaries and secondaries a little, it bogs a little bit between them, but not enough to effect drivability.

For the Phoenix guys, I picked up that Doug Roe book at Loper's Performance for around $18. They had a few of them when I was there a few weeks ago.

i was hoping to pick it up localley, i know they can order it with the ISBN#, i'll try and see if they can get it with title and authors name.

well i had a holly for a about ayear now and it sucked at the sand hills, and well last week i got an edlebrock and it did well @ the hills!! man i totally love this carb!

i have a holley truck avenger 670 now, and i have a ridiculous off-idle stuble....it will either die, backfire, or bog down...it did the same thing with my truck avenger 770....i temporarily put a holley 600 on it and it ran like a scalded ape...but had to go back to the 670 for the off camber situations....it is a bad ass carb off road, never givien me one problem....and with the electric choke ive NEVER had a problem starting it....if i could get rid of the off-idle stuble id say its almost as good as fuel injection....also, holley has a bad ass tech dept. and awsome customer service....id go holley if you cant afford fuel injection....
