Best motor oil??

I just change my oil about every 2500 miles, due to the mileage on my motor, or when it starts to get dirty, (which is usually right around 2500miles)
Keeps the motor clean, the oil thick and makes things last longer. I was runnin down the freeway the other day, looked at to oil pressure, was reading 45psi at about 65mph. Got off and stopped at a stop light, was still reading about 32psi at idle. HMMM, 211,800 miles too, never been torn apart.

Also change the filter WITH every oil change, i hav heard of people that only change their filters every other oil change,,,SHEESH /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

This reminds me, i need to change my oil sometime soon too /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

65MPG---I gotta get me one of them. What motor do you have? /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

That reminds me of another little secret of NAPA. Napa GOLD line filters are WIX filters. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif So save some $$ and get "the good sh!t" /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Yep, all napa filters are Wix far as I know, way better than fram and are cheaper. We have a farm account with Napa and I get my 6010 gold/wix for like $3. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif All you need to do is set up an account with Napa and you automatically get like 10% off or something on all items. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

lol Rotella 15/40 used it in everythign I have just alittle thick in the winter but hey it doesn't get to cold here. Jesse

Castrol Syntec lasts about an hour in the sandrail before it gets cooked. Regular dinosaur oil turns black after about 10 minutes of hard driving.

I usually run regular Castrol GTX in everything else. I used to run Havoline Formula 3 until they quit selling it.

Yeah, i used some of that 15/40 Rotella once in a car i had, back when i used to drive trucks, thought i'd save alittle money and use that oil i already had, hmmm, 3 weeks later i had to replace the cam and lifters, when i drained out the oil, it came out with consistancy like water and black as hell. Never again will i run that multigrade stuff, i know it says for gasoline and diesel engines, but no way, no thanks.

Anyone try those mesh fiters that go on the oil filter and catch any bad stuff in the oil. They seem to be a good idea because you can see any metal particles and tear your motor down before things get ugly. I'm just thinking they might constrict flow of the oil. Any opinions?

putting synthetic oil ina brand new motor is not a good idea... it prevents the rings from breaking in and seating properly wait atleast 3500miles before changing to synthetic....

scoutalac i can explain more if you like or take ya to my buddies engine shop and have hime xplain it to ya since your in spokane and stuff =P

I run Royal Purple in my stock 350 with over 120,000 and it actually does seem to run better. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I've only lost about a pint in 1500 miles and the prices aren't actually that bad.
just my $.02

Whatever you do, just stay away from Pennzoil!!!
In Hot Rod Magazine a while back the were doing horsepower tests and if I remember correctly the test engine picked up around 7 horse by switching to Royal Purple Syn. Sounds like a cheap way to get 7 horse, but what does that end up being at the rear wheels, and isn't Royal Purp. around 6bucks + per quart???

Well sice I work there I get all the suff at cost /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif We recently (last 3 months) had a filter sale and EVERY napa filter was WAY below cost, even for walk in customers. The deal was they had to place an order though, they couldn't take the filters out of stock. Anyhow, I ordered 24 #1060 Napa Gold oil filters (the oil filter the fits 350's and 454's w/ anti-drainback valve), 8 #2096 air filters (Big 14" OD, 4" Tall air filter) and 6 fuel filters for my K5, and 6 oil filters for the girlies civic, 12 oil filters for my Jeep, 3 fuel filters for the Jeep and 2 fuel for the Civic, 3 air filters for the civic and 4 air filters for the Jeep. It was about $80 for A TON of filters ( we loaded them in my Blazer w/ a fork lift in a big coffin box )

I did not know that NAPA oil was Valvoline.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll clue you guys in on another secret.

Carquest oil is Valvoline too.

And our filters are Wix as well. Ask for the blue box one.

We stock the two quart V8 one as well.

And stop buying blends, they're a total rip off. Go 100% synthetic or go home.

As to saying our oil or Napa's oil is half assed Valvoline--think again. They both are absolutely the same product in every way.

[ QUOTE ]

Without a full chemical analyses, how can you say it is the SAME stuff? The Napa oil might have all the by-products not good enough for Valvoline.

[/ QUOTE ]

Because our Territory GM went to visit the Valvoline/NOL factory and the use the SAME oil to fill Valvoline bottles as they do the Napa bottles, just switich up the bottling equipment. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Take it or leave it, but it is the same junk in the $.99 bottle as in the $1.69 bottle, and I for one am up for saving a few bucks/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Same goes for the NAPA "High Mileage"...It IS Valvoline MaxLife

Another example, Martin Senour paints, the EXPENISVE Glamour line is the SAME crap that you can get at 1/2 the price in the Cross-fire line!

Complanies like Valvoline charge more for the same crap in THEIR container BECAUSE THEY CAN and also because there are higher sales costs assosiated with Valvoline Oil than with Napa Oil

Chris

I agree. I love our oil. It's cheap and the same thing as the expensive stuff. I pass the savings onto our customers and my store makes more profit as well.

It's a win/win situation for a counter man.

I switched to Castrol GTX about 10 years ago and have had nothing but the best luck. Used to use Valvoline but after losing 3 engines I swore that that crap off.
