What started out as trimming the front fenders and welding the factory edges back on has now turned into preping the whole truck to be sprayed. I wheel my truck about 50% of the time and don't mind using tree branches for pin stripes:D . I was only going to repaint the front fenders I cut but looking at the truck there was a few spots that the paint peeled where the PO did a bad job of prep work.

So bottom line is the truck is being preped to shoot and I need a good strong paint that will take some abuse.. No Rattle Cans, Tractor Paint or Bedliner!!!!

Will be sprayed by a Pro in a real paint booth. I prep and he shoots for time and materials.

I used Dupont Nason Ful Cryl Acrylic enamel on my 89K5. I matched the orginal color exactly. It is holding up well. It is a very resonable priced paint. Very easy to paint with. I get my share of "Pinstripes" too. They usually rub right out with polish. I did not bother with using a clear coat. It looked great with out one. You should use the Nason ful-fill primer too. Good stuff! I am not the greatest body man. The ful fill flows over minor imperfections.

I'm partial to PPG products myself. If you don't want to spend much cash, you could go with Omni products. Their base doesn't cover as well, but it's half the price. I love their MC161 clear, as long as you reduce it some. It doesnt call for reducer, but it sprays much better with some. Omni is a product line of PPG.

Wouldn't a clear coat help protect the paint a little more?

""Nason ful-fill primer ""

Great stuff for self taught body men.

Clear Coat

From what I have read yeah clear will protect and seal the paint depending on the amounts of coats are applied. Problem here in lyes, with some paint combos you should not clear and others you have to. I.E. Enamel=no clear, Single Stage Urethane=not required but can, and Base/clear Urethane= have to clear within 24 hours of base coat sprayed... Hope that helps
