I need an EGR which are obsolete now from GM apparently but I'm reluctant to buy a $40 job from ebay. Can anyone recommend a make to look for or a supplier? I'm guessing Autozone, Napa and the like only sell cheap copies? Anyone used them and are they ok?
Thanks.

What part number are you looking for?

I don't know how GM does part numbers when one is superseded. That might be the problem. Or, they just discontinued it.

Did you try acdelco.com's catalog? The search is hit and miss, and the arrangement of the online catalog is sometimes poor, but it's pretty authoritative when you find a part you are looking for: http://parts-catalog.acdelco.com/catalog/catalog_search.php I always plug in the part number first, if that doesn't work, search by year/make/model.

Thanks, I got the number from GMpartsdirect.com and it didn't offer me any alternatives. I've just emailed a GM dealer near to here in VA so I'll see what they come back with. I'll check out your link though thanks.

As always Mr Yeager your knowledge is greatly appreciated. I got the AC delco number from their site and found one on Amazon amongst other places. I was looking for the GM part number, hence no luck!
Thanks. Mark.

Glad I could help. I know the EGR part numbers can be a pain to figure out. The Delco site can be a real boon when looking for specific parts. :thumb:

One more question on the EGR valve though, if I want to run the truck in the mean time, can I just unplug the EGR solenoid so I'm not sucking air through the split diaphragm ? All my tools and 'stuff' is still in storage from my house move so I don't even have anything sensible to plug the vacuum line!

Yes. Should trigger the CEL, but all accounts are that it does not change the way it runs. It just knows the EGR isn't working right. System uses the MAP sensor reading to determine if there is a "vacuum leak" created when the ECM commands the EGR to open. If it doesn't see the change from the EGR opening when it should, it triggers the CEL.

Any chance you remember the ACDelco part number? I need to replace the EGR solenoid and having a hell of a time tracking one down.
