Best Ratchet ever made?

Check out classifieds on garage journal you will find great deals there

guess I'll do that and just fix my Craftsman....and watch....man I got a case of the "i wants" with these ratchets though....

definitely one to shop..

I've watched those bp's from those 2 vendors for a couple yr's now.. sometimes there's no interest and you can get a 1/4 drive for $17 or so, than some weeks, mechnicks are fighting over them at $30...

the big $ snappy stuff can be had for 1/2 truck price or so, if your patient...

oh.. I friggin want that.. mmmmm, bolt bins, storage,, grunt, yeah.. :woot:

need to start hunting that place.. grunt, grunt... :haha:

Figured that get some wood.
I've been a mechanic all my life being 50.
I have used and owned them all. 6 and 12 point, craftsman, SK when they were good, proto, blue point, snap on, gearwrench, jcpenny tools, remember them? Harbor freight Boney wrenches work fine. I've got blue point ratchet wrenches from snap on that say Taiwan right on them.
They are all going to break and usually due to miss use.

Better quality sure , worth 3 times the cost, not unless it's a specialty tool.

Tools don't make the mechanic the mechanic makes the tool.

I'd rather have a set of cheaper ratchet wrenches etc and a pressure washer than have the snap on man laughing all the way to bank on me.

I think I'll go buy a 5000 dollar snap on tool box because it says snap on and has chrome trim. Oh and the double triple ball bearing drawers.

Like you said think what you want but to each his own. It's all good.
:) :)

been there, done that.... I'm 50 too... and yeah, a KRL kicks the **** out of any other toolboxes including maximizers, etc... hands down...

you may have a grudge vs snappy, many mechnicks do... it's par for the course... but arguing that it isn't generally top o' the line is just, I don't know.. belligerent, self-justifying imo..

been there, seen it... live it daily.. sure, a crapsman wrench get's ya by, but that extra quality edge does matter.. well, to some anyway.. my customers certainly appreciate that extra effort..

I hope at least... :haha:

Have to agree a good ratchet help you a great deal in tight places no knuckle busters no play nice and tight

Had a kid dump the clutch on an old f150 (he thought it was in neutral :doah:) slammed into the end of my box. Dented it and set the top askew, but the drawers still worked and the top set back strait.Never tried it with a cheeper box, but I'll stick with what I got:D
The good thing is there are almost as many options as there are opinions(Almost).
I know a mechanic that goes to harbor freight buys 3 sets of whatever and pitches it when they brake. If I wasn't a mechanic I know I wouldn't spend the money I do.

weekend warrior vs pro wrench turners are 2 totally different things... X eleventy.. :deal: :haha:

I wear out 5/16th's nut drivers in a couple yr's from all the hoseclamps I deal with .. even the snappy's...

most guy's, that sh*t would last em a lifetime x 3... :doah: :haha:

As I said better quality sure, but how much vs price. And I can assure you at this day and age how much will the job cost and is is done right is the bottom line. I'm sure that head replacement will last longer done with a snap on verses a quality competitors tools box without the bling. And no grudge jut smart about it, if I need a snap on it will be a snap on we're not using vice grips and a hammer here. Snap on has its place true but that doesn't mean every one that doesn't have or can affords product is inferior.

The top step of a ladder is not for standing on but it is there never the less.
:) I've got an extra bud light lol[/quote]

I understand, I truly do..

I certainly try to budget myself as everyone else does, when need be.. and try other manny's, etc... heck, I have a fair amount of infrequently used HF items in my toolbox..

but I definitely know what my quality, "save my arse on a daily basis" tools are, vs my "once every 3 yr's" type stuff is..

and I will defend those purchases, albeit overpriced... the snappy guy/weekly service has to have some value to it I suppose.. :haha:

the funny thing about this whole convo to me is.... I've some decent Mac stuff, and just a few matco items that are good (never had a Matco guy).. but if you hunt those brands on eghey, people want a fortune for em most of the time.. I mean that's all relevant, some people just list used snappy stuff at book price (yeah ok ) but I see used mac socket sets going for big $ and such...

You are deeply respected on this site as well as In your profession I'm sure the point is let's just be smart about it and do what's right. I have those crappy craftsman ratchets and rarely use them. :) that's all for now

and just as a point of reference on my postings.. I haven't had ANY tool truck in about 5 yr's or so....

I could.. but I've opted for them to NOT make me a stop on their routes...

at some point, I may change that and have them stop in.. but for now, it's kind of a self-imposed curfew after decades of expenditures.... :haha:

thanks.. and I understand.. it's just a point of performance to me... I'd like to see everyone here performing at their best, and sometimes that "tool" edge makes a dif.. sometimes it doesn't as you pointed out, and as I alluded to with my boss.. he's got a photographic memory, and really is a fuggin genius.... truly... but he's not a car/hotrod type guy and uses cr
@p tools.. :dunno: so it kinda freaks me, unlike most guys in here... :haha:

Idk maybe I just have a problem with overcharging just because they can. I'm the type of person that will help you all day and not ask for anything but a thank you and a beer.

yeah, I don't know.. obviously your probably paying at least a third more to truck guys.. but that's true for mac guys too.. tho, Mac guys, and their company in general, are MUCH more open to carrying other stuff.. like KD, etc.. Snappy is definitely "tighter" about other brands, etc.. no doubt..

my Mac guy at my last marina was definitely more my "go to" guy than my snappy guy..

I guess it's like buying ORD spec'd leaf springs from alcan.... same thing, but the personal, specialized service is worth something...
