best tranny for mud???

We have that Kind of mud up where I grew up in Minnesota for the most part ya just pick a gear and stick to it and watch the tach:eek1: I agree run your setup till it frys and then upgrade But I will say this a Clutch is alot cheaper to replace than a whole Automatic

Oh so true while I am a fan of the auto I would put a 4 or 5 speed in my blazer if my wife would let me. She likes the auto so it stays

Do what I did tell the wife if she wants to drive she better learn how :haha:

Unfortunately my wife is a hell of a driver with both an auto and a stick. I got to do the suspension the way I wanted to, give and take you know. Its actually the mud why she wants to keep the auto.

LOL mine to she just whines about the clutch being to stiff

I have come from the other side of these arguments, my mud rig HAD an sm465 that I swapped to a th400. I hate the auto it was the worst thing I did to the truck. I do not have the power I once had from my built 350 the tranny sucks it up. in mud I have to run my truck in 1stgear lowrange so the auto is kinda pointless.

most love the th400 205 combo, I will sell mine if somebody wants it (too much money in it to give it away but the thought has crossed my mind)

how much have you put into it???:D

my wimmpy 31's got me stuck today in my front yard!!!! its rained alot, maybe 2 much!!LOL that could never happen, my dads truck pulled me out!!LOL

And don't get a wimpy mud tire get a swamper radial they will last pretty good on the street and kick butt in the mud

errr.... radials = wimpy mud tire..... bias ply = mud tire...

boggers are best mudder tire but suck on pavement age
hawgs are second best to boggers in mud and last a hellova time on pavement....

I had a turbo 400 with a shiftkit and the wife drove it all the time... when it had 33's and a 3" bl... now she cant drive it and actually I dont want her to... I know how the truck works... anything happens I know what to do.. she wouldnt.... not bashing her but she is better off a passenger.... :haha:

Well I'm not the first to say it, but I'm surprised I'm only the second to say....Powerglide. They can be built easily to handle massive abuse so when your funds allow, you can go with the biggest, nastiest motor you can build and still not hurt it.

Other than not being street practical theres the issue of transfer case adapters (or lack there off) so you would have to run a Divorced case or have some crazy adapter made($$$$$$$)

yes Th350/Np203 combos are a Dime a Dozen I Literally have a Pile of them here at my house I run them till the Th350 pukes and then swap them out

And where is that coming from, the mud I run doesn't have deep roots or anything like that. I think tread is way more important than radial or bias ply. My 38" radials did awesome in the mud. And they last longer than a bias ply on the street. Obviously its hard to do a direct comparision but a I had 38.5x14.5 sxs on for a little while and didn't notice much difference at all my truck did just about the same. I put on a set of radial Iroks a freind let me borrow for a day before I bought mine and the performance seemed identical to the bias Iroks I got. Tread pattern is the most important when talking mud. And boggers rule the mud world, I think Iroks are the second best then TSL (sx bias or radial) and ground hawgs are about even but once again this is my opinion, based on the type of mud I run
