87 K5 noticed today that the door striker has cracked badly.

Wondering best way to tackle this weekend to fix correctly.

Say 40% cracked around bottom and towards outside.

Any one know what gauge metal that would be?

i have removed 1 striker bolt washer and made a patch the same thickness and as big as needed . then weld and paint .

Got it taken care of today.

Was able to weld it with no problems at all. Which kinda shocked me, 4 cracks and went at it with short tacks.

Totally missed this thread. Heres my fix

Welded cracks first then plated over it. I was more interested in strength than oem looks.

A little grinding and some filler you probably wouldn't notice.

Switch to .024 wire and tack tack tack.
Your little late to the party. Already done and used .30 since was in the welder. Took roughy hour pulling all stuff out to do job in driveway.

You know it won't fit it my garage
