Yep know it's already been posted but this is FREKIN MOAB WERE TALKING ABOUT!!!

Alright boys and girls. This is it! The final push. Anyone and everyone needs to put a short letter together TODAY!!!!! Even if you never do anything else about land use do this one thing, please, please, please.

The new Moab Resource Management Plan will be finalized by next summer. Depending on how things go, somewhere between 3300 and 3900 miles of EXISTING, DOCUMENTED routes WILL be closed. Keep it closer to 3300 by spending a few minutes reading this post.

The public comment period is open until Friday November 30th!

Your comments will determine how many miles and trails are lost.

Here is a ton of information from Utah 4 Wheel Drive Association, Red Rock 4 Wheelers, Moab Friends-For-Wheelin', and Blueribbon Coalition:

Please, please, please, take a few minutes to download this document and read it before submitting your comments. We need substantive comments.

Page 7 lists the most important 4x4 specific issues.

Page 15 lists an awesome sample comment letter by BRC.

Page 3 has the address/email for submitting comments

We also have some sweet map comparisons here:

A high-up anti-OHV rep boasted that we wouldn't even come close to matching the number of comments they will submit. They are counting on the apathy of 4x4 users to institute these closures in Moab. Don't let them win!

Spend 10 minutes to help save a trail!

FAQ:

Q: Why don't you just list the email address to submit comments?
A: Comments need to be substantive! Simple comments like, "please keep the roads open" or "I support OHV recreation" are worthless and will be discarded. Take a few minutes to read through the information provided, and submit your own comments.

Q: Why don't we use an automated "letter writer" online to submit comments?
A: Automatically generated comments are worthless! These comments are counted as ONE comment even if 10,000 people send in the email. The comments need to be personal, unique, and informed.

Q: Isn't this a little late notice?
A: Information about the RMP has been available for months all over the Internet, in publications, and on numerous online forums. But it's not too late! Submit your comments today!

I sent mine. I'm 55. I related to them that with the proposed closures, I'll never be able to see most of it. I can't hike all that terrain.
They will have cut me off from what I've paid for all my life.
That last part was not included in my letter: don't want to threaten a lib, at least not in public.:haha:

Thanks guys I hope this outrageous proposal doesn't go through.

Man I sure hope they dont shut down parts of Moab, Its been a dream of mine since 2006 to have a truck and a way down there.

Well, keep hoping, maybe that helps. You can see how many views this thread has accumulated - any old carburetor thread will beat this by a long shot. Just shows the true interest, I guess. Unfortunately, it's not any different on other forums as well.

Actually this issue has had quite a bit of interest and response. I first posted in the garage about it last summer when the BLM opened up public comments on this issue. I got a lot of replies, views, and PMs about it and many of us have sent out comments long ago. There has been quite a bit of talk in the land use forum also. Some members here have gone to the public input meetings in Utah So please don't take the lack of views and response on this thread as our apathy.
The BRC, working with Utah off road clubs are highly active on this issue. Residents & business in Moab who depend on ORV recreation are very vocal and have their opinions known.
I don't think the trails will be closed. The BLM prefers a compromise with land closings to Orv's but keeping most trails open. Not allowing off trail motorized travel. Limiting the amount of organized users on a trail. They are listening to amendments to the plan by off- roaders about proposed road less areas that have established roads and areas that should be kept open. There are laws they have to go by. They just cant close all established roads and trails and destroy the local economy.
I think they are just trying to get a hand on EJS and other overcrowded events. Easter weekend there is Crazy. People driving all over the place tearing things up. The phrase "Tread lightly" is practically unknown on Easter week. Some of those aholes really give offroaders a bad name.
Of course the stupid greenies will try to close everything down. but i don't think it will happen.....at least for now.. They can always sue if they don't get their way.
There will be changes but hopefully with everyones input they will be for the best. So everyone can enjoy Moab and area.
