My brother gave me a set of thornturds for my k5, the first time out i got stuck on wet grass with one tire over a log. the log was on a down slope that turned out to be a dead end, and they wouldn't even tear up the grass to get traction to get back over the log.
i had those things in my garage for 2 years before i found someone "sucker" to take them off my hands.

you decide,heres some true thornbird proof,ans yes i got them free,couldnt pay me to put them on my truck again.

all in all,if they had better road manners,i wouldnt have hated them so much,the road manners are downright dangerous!!! offroad,i found the worse the mud got,the better they worked,because of the TSL lugs on the sides,the center tread blocks dont do DICK to help you get going

and heres a funny video,from the same wheeling incident when i got stuck for 4 hours waiting for help i nthe woods......

she and i were obviously extremly bored
 
find some normal mud to play in, and i'm sure they'll do quite a bit better than you'd like to give them credit for. that is some THICK ass mud right there.
 
I remember a picture years back, I think on the ORC forums about thornturds. It was the best use ever for them. The guys mom used them to plant flowers in.

We run BFG AT on the suburban cause that is what was on it when we got it and the wife did not want to try any other tires. I don't really like them, they hydro plane very easy in rain and the slushy snow. They do have good ice and packed snow traction. But in the mud no dice and on gravel roads they fling rocks around like no other tire I have ever seen.

I ran a set of WILD COUNTRY® RADIAL TXR on my F350 and they were awesome, I loved them, for an all around AT tire that is the best I have used yet. Plus you can buy them as take offs from Nebraska tire for about 80 each delivered.

Suggestion: Grab the "turd"birds (hey, they're free!). Buy, borrow, steal a tire groover and show them NO mercy :haha: Hell, wasn't there a thread about someone who grooved tires with a skillsaw??? :eek1: :D
 
yunno,i forgot to mention,beelive it or not,my truck made it out of that hole,granted i had give it hell! but it made it out,if there being used offroad,in my expereience there not THAT bad,not good enough to buy brand new,but good enough to use if there cheap or free.


now on the roads,if you love your family/kids/parents/girlfriend...id HIGHLY suggest against them,there downright ****ing dangerous.
 
The TBs are super heavy too... A buddy on a K5 got rid of his free set (that were given to him by 4wheelparts supply) and his biggest complaint was the horrid ride and the weight.
 
A friend of mine who tends to go through allot of off-road vehicles (gets them cheap, wheels till they fall appart and then scraps them), always seems to be buying a vehicle with Thornbirds. First was an Explorer with 31's, then a Bronco with 33's and then another Bronco with 35's. The tires always seem to be brand new when he gets them. He doesn't think that they do to bad, but he has never wheeld a rig with real mud tires on it. Personaly I think a BFG AT would do just as well. I really don't know why Interco still makes them (do they still make them?). I've still got 8 of them in my backyard from when he cut up the Broncos. We were gonna mount them on a set of 8 lug wheels and do a bunch of burnouts with them...we just haven't come across any free 15" 8 lugs.
 
You'd be grooving for days to get all the unnecessary **** off.
 
True that. I don't have a grrover OR thornbirds so either way it's not happening.

BTW who brought this back up? I mean it's not even a real mystery
