BFG Mud King XT tires (discussion)

Well they are not really B.F.Goodritch, they are Mud Kings. I don't know if that matters to you, but it does to some people. The tread pattern is typical older tech MT.

My neighbor runs them and they seem to wear well. But he's young and I'm sure doesn't have a long commute. He never wheels, so no idea about offroad performance.

I used to run a set in 31's on my Ranger when it was stockish. Loved them. They're not rock crawlers as the sidewall is kinda thin but they worked great on the two tracks and trails I played on at the time. Sipe them and they're excellent all weather tires.

They're not BFG's as mentioned above. The company that makes/sells the Mud and Sport King tires is actually part of the same French company that makes BFG and Michelin tires.

Shorts over on ORC/Chevy got 40,000+ miles out of a set of 265/75R16's on her Z71. A friend put the same size on his '99 Ranger and just loved them.

Those things suck ASS on the road. I had a set in the 285 flavor, and they were worn so unevenly by 15k miles that I had to buy a new set of tires. That said, they worked pretty well offroad, but I wouldn't put em on a daily driver.

And for the record, I'm pretty OCD when it comes to maintenance intervals, so they got rotated and balanced every 4,000 miles and air pressure was checked weekly. They're not a good street tire.

See it's funny how people give different opinions on anything.

I've run 4 sets of them, 1 set of 30/9.50/15's on a '97 Nissan 4x4 that had 30k on them when I sold it. They still looked great. 2 sets of 31/10.50/15's, 1 on a Toyota 4x4, 1 on a K5. Both had about 20k on them when the trucks were sold, both sets wore great., and a set of 35's on my '79 K10, got about 40k out of them. All trucks were daily drivers. I'm gonna buy a set for my Suburban when I need tires again.

2 ply sidewall instead of the 3 ply like normal BFG Mud Terrains. Sold under the Cavalier brand if I remember correct.

Correct.

There was a set of those tires on my truck when I first started driving it and the BFG's I eventually replaced them with were much better in every aspect (other than the price difference, I suppose).

I had a set on my wrangler and loved them. I had 40k on them and could of got 10k more out of them if my brother didnt cut holes in the side walls. They handled fine to me on the road. Now some times it got a little scary drivin in the rain but thats normal with any mud tire.

Trust me, sipe the bastards and they'd have been the bomb in rain, ice, snow, sleet, etc. Loved mine.

I have to agree they aren't the best wearing tire on road. They work well off road though, as long as you keep the sidewalls away from sharp rocks :wink1:

FWIW, I plan on getting something else when I replace these (which will be sometime in the next few months),
